This is so nice, beautiful kitty. I like your poem and I identify with it. My kitty, Jewel, is aged, too. She's here beside me on the couch, a real love bug. Pet parents love their furry children. Marilyn

This is a very sweet poem, and I love that it's told from the cat's perspective. Yes, we are absolutely their slaves and not their owners. I love your rhyme of "sofa" and "loafer."

The only thing that bothered me was that the last lines of some stanzas threw off the meter and, thus, the flow. Hopefully more people will pay attention to the emotion, which is genuine and touching.

Thanks for your comments, Michele. I can't work out how to fix the rhythm of those stanzas.

Then don't. You expressed your feelings well, and this isn't a contest where it will work against you, so forget about it for this poem, but keep meter in mind for the next one you write. Sound good?

I love your poem about your beautiful kitty, Lisa. Great job with the rhymes, the smooth flow, the imagery, and all of the details. I could see this kitty doing all these 'kitty' things. I like the line about 'the life of a loafer. Mine act that way until I bring in something that they know I brought just for them--like a fast food fish dinner. I know about the 'gifts,' too. Lucky for me, I only get catnip mice or some little toy since they are inside kitties. You know YOU don't own cats, THEY own you. I lost 4 last year in a period of several months. One was my sister's kitty who died 4 days after my sister died. I still miss all of them. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully with Love and Admiration, Jan.

    Super review, thank you!
It's so sad when our pets die - me losing one was bad enough, but for you to have 4 depart in quick succession would be so distressing. Your sister's cat must have been tuned in to her.

My kitty, Honey, died on October 17, 2019, and I still miss her. Wendy was my sister's kitty, and I held her all night, then she died while I was still holding her the next morning--just 4 days after my sister died. Two other kitties left also.

As a cat person, naturally I enjoyed reading this. But I'm going to kill you for ending it on such a sad note. I've had cats all my life and can't begin to say how many I've had to put to sleep. Hugs, Lou

It wasn't meant to be sad initially, but that last stanza got involved because my cat really did die.

A sweet poem about a faithful friend, the cat! You don't have to take him on a date as long as you fill his supper plate. He doesn't care how you're dressed as long as you stroke his breast, Cuddle up by the fire. For this night you can both retire!
Nice poem!
God bless!
Patty

A very well-written poem about a pet that brings out the soft part within ourselves that we often don't know existed before we have a connection with the little soft ball.

Such a true relationship between kitty and "slave." But it ended so sadly. Did your kitty die? I hope not.
My favorite line was: "I bequeath my fur upon the sofa." That sounds so regally like a cat.

I'm so sorry to hear. You did say she was not doing well and in advanced years. Our pets leave such a big hole in our lives when they go. ♥

You've certainly connected to an inner cat. I was with her on her life's journey and her perspective on who is owner her. I was somehow distressed by this cat's death

You love your cat Lisa and I hope the story isn't true that death came? Cats can give lots of affection even though they are independent, I enjoyed your sweet story, love Dolly x

A strange poem with a unique twist in the tail. So this really is a rave from the grave. It is often said of cat owners that they do not own the cat, because the cat owns them. The cat decides.

My cat decided to die, also. Otherwise it could have been a happier poem with the cat still alive.
