That's such a cute poem, wonderfully written. I love the way you describe the gnomes and I was really surprised by the ending which is great. All in all, I think this is a great poem.

I had 2 beautiful antique, 6 color gnomes that I cherished in my garden. Someone stole them both and my weather vane of copper rooster. I do not like the cheap ones, but mine were wonderfully whimsical, cheers, judester

Thank you for the kind review. So sorry someone stole your gnomes and copper rooster. As for Nan's gnomes, they all reappeared. Not sure what happened. Maybe Nan just took them in for the night. No one is telling. haha

There is no gnome like a colorful gnome
And there is no home like a peaceful home.
May your weekend be blessed with a peaceful gnome in your home.

I can just imagine what the reactions were like when folks first came upon garden gnomes in number! As a garden ornament, my wife and I find them adorable! Much does depend on how well they are made, their colouring and their size, of course. We have a few placed strategically in our many flower beds, (buried under snow at present) that does surprise folks. We have a great number - visitors that is - every year. The children love to see them, but one has to remind them not to walk into the flower beds to get a closer view! We also like those that light up at night (solar charged) after a sunny day. We've had no trouble with stolen gnomes, but did erect 'movement detector lights, until we managed to close in our front. As an ex landscape gardener, I am aware there is a a place and number of course, for placing garden ornaments - especially when vulnerable to theft! Loved your 'ditty' and the fact you made an enjoyable read for me and others who can visualise the scene! I would suggest that Nan marks the bottom of her gnomes with an indelible identity marker, or places a small metal insert not easily removed. Mine that are on a small pedestal, are 'glued' down with some very strong (builder's) adhesive and it would take a lot of force to move them! Never lost a one yet! Fondest Rhymer.

Thank you for the delightful review. Good idea to mark the bottom of the gnomes for better identification. I'm glad you never lost one.

Hello, how strange! Gnomes, they are a funny feature in a garden. I found the poem light and amusing. My favorite line about Nan was 'she didn't meet a gnome she didn't like, hahaha
Good entertaining poem, cheers, Eve.

This modern sonnet, Nan's Gnomes, has a funny tale of the new neighbor with kitschy tastes in lawn ornaments. I wonder how long before the gnomes really do disappear?

Hello Janet,
You've written an excellent, fun poem about the gnomes
with excellent rhymes and an interesting story.
I'm rather fond of gnomes, myself, and I'd much rather sees
gnomes on the lawn than pink flamingos.
Hmmm, I wonder if the neighbors snitched them or the gnomes
or the tricky little fellows just disappeared?
Excellent ditty.

I do hope that at least they have a big yard to handle something like a pagoda! LOL, Ahhh... the gaudy lawn ornament people!!! I suggest that you go out, buy a ton of dollar pink flamingos and pepper their lawn one night when they're asleep! Wall to wall the place with ugly pink flamingos. LOL or something equally as revolting and cheep.

-Very nice image
and presentation, Janet.
-Good to see you on FS.
-Hope you had a good
holiday season and New Year!
-Your notes are appreciated,
and I had a situation that
resulted in writing a sonnet
to get rid of the frustration
so I can relate!
-I like your poem; it flows
well with good imagery
and rhyme, and tells a good story.
-I think the first line sets the tone,
and the last verse is priceless.
-Thanks for sharing.

Only the uninitiated would doubt or be unaware that gnomes move freely about, going wherever they choose whenever they choose. It is pure foolishness to try and make them stay put. Might as well get used to the idea, not only are they here to stay, they may one day, rule the roost.
