Hi Kahpot, I can't imagine what the people of Australia are going through. It's never been that bad here in the states. It gets really bad, but there's always somewhere to go... somewhere to get away to... even if it's difficult to get there, there's always somewhere to go to. What you're all going through is just the scariest thing I've ever seen. I pray for you all!

Hi Kahpot, I can't imagine what the people of Australia are going through. It's never been that bad here in the states. It gets really bad, but there's always somewhere to go... somewhere to get away to... even if it's difficult to get there, there's always somewhere to go to. Oh my goodness, kahpot, you have my heart hurting for you... I have been watching the news and reading some posts here, and I can so relate as we lost our place to fire a few years ago (2016) in the early morning hours of my birthday. It it a feeling of which you never really free yourself (course it has only been a few years)... but on such a large scale and the lives and land affected, it truly does break a heart. This is a BEAUTIFULLY devastating offering, sir, that is woven with the loss that is inside of you along with the perseverance that is inside the Australian people... My last six is yours, my friend!! :)

Accepted with much gratitude and I am honored, yes I read and heard of the fires in your area, I remember thinking (saying) how sad this is and hoping it doesn't happen here, but as you and your country we will survive and when the smoke clears I hope to be a bit more regular on this site again, many, many thanks****kahpot

This is well written, heartfelt, and heart-wrenching. The powerful images you project by your adept use of descriptions of the burning and suffering that is still going on. The flow, meter, and rhyme scheme are all well done. It appeared difficult to do yet, I knew that your heart and soul were into it as you passionately wrote this piece. My favorite stanza is the fifth one. Lines, such as, "standing back to back at the salt waters' edge as we fight for a country unwilling to bow..." give the reflection of pride in your country, and faith and hope that you're not giving up. I am so sorry for your loss of so much of what you love. Thank you for sharing this horrendous tale of the terrible destruction of your homeland.

We have visited Kangaroo Island and I am relieved to hear that the fires there have ceased. (You probably know we have had our share in California as well.) Your "undeserving cremation" is unforgettable and the picture you selected underscores the "hungry firestorms". I admired your rhymes and salute your hopes for the future.
