I agree wholeheartedly. Nothing can be said to erase the fact that 100 people are dead and all those families are grieving. Even the people of Iran are upset about it.I believe it is not the people, but the leaders who want war.
I pray we don't get into another war. Well said Nomi. Nancy:)

Hello Nancy. I agree, the last thing we need is another armed conflict which result in the tragic loss of more human lives. Can we just stop with all the violent acts of hatred and revenge?

Yes, no one can deny the reality of what you say, Nomi. Tragically, there is no end in sight to the escalating geopolitical hostility, when today, even individuals are capable of carrying out previously impossible acts of mass slaughter to which we all are potential victims.
The world has become too complicated for traditional methods of remediation.

Keep your fingers crossed,
Ogden (Don)

Sadly my dear fellow, the future does not look very bright. As we devolve into, "I'm gonna get mine at whatever cost" , has led to people being willing to do anything and everything to make sure that theirs is the last blow delivered.

You can tell I agree with your pessimism about the future, for many, many reasons.

Hi
A timely poem, it is sad but true what you have penned.
I don't usually comment on content, but ..well I don't understand any war...it just always means people die and politicians don't.

Hard to read this without feeling the pain, so then...that makes it a good hartd hitting Poem.

Thank you so much. It was not my intention to cause anyone pain, but the very fact that pain was felt is an indication of the humanity of the one feeling the pain.

Good poem - your take on that disaster. it was horrible - yet they tried to deny it. Plus if you view the damage their missiles did to the Iraq bases - wow - thank God no one there was killed.
If i were Canada's govt also, I would sure send a strong message to Iran
Was it an accident. I sort of think it was - but no matter. It was awful. No plane should have been allowed to take off though.
Good thoughtful poem.

Thank you Gail. As I believe in God, I also believe that the victims felt no pain, therefore did not suffer. I also believe that God will comfort the surviving families and strengthen them over time so that they will be able to deal with their tragic loss.

Yes, and you've prob. been praying for the families of these victims - as I have.

It must be remembered that mistakes are made by all countries all the time. a few years ago a US warship shot an Iranian airliner out of the sky by mistake. It would be better if mistakes were acknowledged immediately. Covering up the boo-boos doesn't work. A mistake acknowledged early on is more likely to be accepted as such, so why bother denying? Yes, 'nuff said.'

You are very wise in your assessment of the situation. I have witnessed your wisdom and compassion before. Therefore, I am not surprised at your display of wisdom in this case as well.

The Iranianian regime is a death cult. They enrich uranium and defy any constraints to do whatever they want. They finally confessed to the truth; they shot down the passenger plane. Thanks for this, brave poet. I couldn't have said it any better. God is love and God is life. :)
Sending you my best today as always
Sally :)

I am so glad that you wrote about this appalling and tragic incident. As if saying sorry made up for all the lives lost and devastated. There are no words. Thanks for sharing . Jen.

Thank you for sharing this heartfelt poem about the tragic and senseless loss of life in Iran. Missiles triggered by commercial passenger planes flying overhead are obviously programmed by a trigger-happy system fueled by paranoia and aggravated by international conflict.

I understand your viewpoint, that with so many lives lost, the issue of intention is secondary to the magnitude of what occurred. I think it was Albert Einstein who said that a person who saves a life, saves an entire world; what can be said of the lives that are taken? More than 100 worlds gone, almost in an instant (and I wish it was in a flash, to be more painless), some of those worlds so new, and all connected to other people whose lives will never be the same.

Thank you Mary. I don't want to preach, but I do believe that our God and creator has compassion, especially for the innocent and that his mercy prevented their suffering. Woe to those who caused their death because their blood will be demanded back from the ones who spilled it.
reply by Mary Kay Bonfante on 14-Jan-2020
You're welcome. And there's nothing wrong with preaching. We are all responsible for our actions, and we would do well to remember that. Yes, we must trust in God and His mercy!

I echo your sentiments exactly. Senseless waste of perfectly good people. I am still angry, as we all are.
Its hard to believe that so many people died, "on accident." Thanks for writing this important poem!
