Now it's time for a breather. Holidays are always so hectic. We can slow down and take comfort that spring will surely be here soon. We've had a very mild winter, which suits me, and we'll get through the week with fairly warm temperatures. Who knows what the rest of the month will bring. I enjoyed your free verse. Time to put the reminders of 2019 away. That reminds me, I haven't found a 2020 calendar yet! Have a great Sunday. judi

You're welcome. I think I'll head to Hallmark today in search of a calendar. judi

Yes indeed. I can remember the satisfaction of the cleaned up house after all the Christmas tat had been cleared away and the overworked vacuum cleaner had ingested the last of the needles of the natural (of course) Christmas tree, retained most of its needles until you tried to move it out.
As a piece of free verse too this is effective. I sensed two rhythms applying here. Neither has a metrical name for this is free verse, but the first three lines are, I believe, rhythmically and aurally separated from the last two lines. The word solid does it all for me.

Thanks for your words Jim. I agree that the entire piece hinges on the word .. solid.. it has an underpinning quality to me. Have a lovely Sunday!

Your words regarding snow being 'an enchantment of winter' just reminded me of Narnia and the ice age it endured under the White Witch! I must also say, that I too find comfort in the month of January as it often brings new beginnings!
Great read! :-)

Hello Aaqib... thank you for your wonderful review. Yes, the enchanting part does remind me of Narnia too. Much appreciated!

Sounds like you've had enough of the holiday season and everything that goes along with it. It's been a very strange winter here. 50's one day, 30's the next. A mix between winter and fall. Had a tornado a couple of days ago which is odd. Think old man winter is hitting the sauce.

Hi Misty. Thanks. Yes, I am ready for all things to return to normal.... This is a crazy, mixed up winter... I did a bit of gardening yesterday... go figure. Haha.

I am like that every year! I decorate my house beautifully and tastefully (or so I am told). I love the way it looks, but I like to wake up New Year's Day with everything gone. I will still enjoy winter, but now I feel it is time to think about spring. Maybe if the stores did not start right after Halloween, I wouldn't tire of Christmas. Your poem is perfect and the wrapped cup of tea reminds us it is still a cozy time of year!

January is often a trial, Christmas has been expensive, snow is forthcoming and there is the long winter ahead, but you have found some sparkle and peace in your words here, love Dolly x

I like this poem because it has a slightly different approach than what I usually find. All in all, I think that this is a nicely written poem which is fun to read. Also, I love the image you chose for this one.
