This is a super write, Melissa. I enjoyed every word, but you are so correct in these words which resonate with me:
"For it is January, solid January,
and there is a comfort in that."
Yes there is comfort in that. Marilyn

I have found it a comfort too, to be in January with the decorations and all of the events behind us. Glad you liked it, Marilyn.

What a lovely little poem, Melissa. There's always a pang when the decorations come down after New Year. It's back to business in January. I agree.

In our home the celebrations continue. All three of my grandkids and many relatives and friends have birthdays in January. :-))

Blessings Julia

January is ofentimes a difficult month for me. Four members of my family have died on the first day. I have to push aside the painful memories and grasp the new day, new year. It is new in its essence. A lovely poetic reminder to enjoy each day. :))
Sending you my best today as always and blessings for the new year,
Sal xoxo

A very well-written free verse poem about January that brings a sense of normality after the Christmas festive season we know it is time to start again with dreams in tact.

This hit the spot, just like the tea. I know this feeling well. And in its own way it's more satisfying than spring cleaning with all the remnants of Christmas packed up in storage for next year. And yes the comfort is very satisfying.

Excellent free verse, Melissa. :)

That's a good attitude to these changing seasons. I liked the repetition in "For it is January, solid January," because it seemed to affirm the facing of the current month and being content in it.

My tradition is to remove all of the decorations after Epiphany, especially since we don't have snow in Southern California. Your poem speaks of January as a fresh start and "there is comfort in that"! Smiles- Joan

Hi Melissa, it is tempting to see the sleigh and say that's where you got it from, but then I said you knew how to spell it all along lol. Halfway through Jan now, past many birthdays but this is a lovely write. Cheers Colin x

I love the lemon charged cup of tea covered in what would have once looked like a tea cozy, and I guess your January could be needed woollen cozies. A beautifully written free verse work Melissa, well done, blessings Roy

The decorations of the Christmas season are a joy to see; then there's a certain satisfaction in putting them away! Your ultra-concise poem is well written and appealing.
