You certainly vividly captured your environs with this 5-7-5. It was quite transporting especially since I live in Southern California where it very rarely snows. I admired your use of alliteration and your "sentries" simile. Best wishes in the competition- Joan

Thank goodness for the trees, is my first thought. Your expressed that the trees are beautiful, and your words expressed that they are also lifesavers. They have a job.
I wish you luck in the contest! This is good work:)

Hi Therese. This is a nice 5-7-5. We DO look for guideposts in a storm to give us a clue regarding our whereabouts. I've had this experience. Well written. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Oh, do I relate! We live in an area with lots of hilly curvy roads. While we rarely have snow or ice, there are lots of rainy days and always dark nights when visibility is bad. With all the deer running wild, it's those banks of pines where they usually dart out. And those pines keep you more cautious of the potential danger. Did God provide them for us?

Out in the country where the snow squalls across the road and you can't see where the road is. The open fields look the same as the road, Darn right the pine trees can guide you safely home! I love the picture of the snow-covered pine trees.
Have a great day!

This is far from me but a life I used to know. I live in the tropics now where winter is absent. It's nice to see someone enjoying snow and the evergreens all around.
Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the contest,
Sally xo

You're describing our yards right now - so much snow - the pines and fir covered - really beautiful - but treacherous on the roads. Good job with this short poem. I like the "trees as sentries"

-Nice image and
presentation, Terry.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-The syllable count is good
and the imagery creates
a vivid word picture of the
winter scene.
-I like how you begin the
poem with specific examples
of conditions, and then lead
into the importance of the pines.
-Effective alliteration and
concluding line.
-A good entry; good luck.

A good entry in 5-7-5 contest. It almost feels like a prayer the way you said 'guide me home safely'. Your choice of words was outstanding considering the syllable count. Best wishes for the contest!
