Ouch! What a painful story to read. You did an excellent job of building up the tension, taking the reader with you as the story progressed from a "simple" experience of her driving while drunk, to her having hit someone, and then having left the scene. Each progression was unexpected, so you let the reader feel the emotions along with the husband, as he was feeling them. Your story is well set up, with the right amount of detail, and the dialogue is believable.
