It is heart wrenching to see what has overtaken your beautiful country. The firemen should be commended for their courage and stamina. We feel for you and the wildlife. You are in our prayers.

Your poem is skillfully-written and powerfully descriptive. You have used specific, moving details to convey the horror and continuing loss of that ravaged area.

Janice thank you for your kind words. Your review is very much appreciated

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the raging wild fires that seem unstoppable and many lives of human and animals lost and left homeless with no hope of rain to stop the fire.

Thank you Sandra for such a complimentary review. Fortunately we only get these fires about once every twenty years.

I think this verse is a lovely tribute to firefighters everywhere, and more specifically to those fighting the horrible fires in Eastern Australia.
It's hard to imagine what those people must be going through.

Thank you Sharon. They truly are amazing examples of how good a human can be. Risking all without any fear. Pity our political leaders don't practice the same principles.
Though it should be noted, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is a volunteer fireman and has been involved in combating these fires. Thank you Mr. Abbott and all other firemen also.

It's incredibly sad to see the state of things in Australia. This poem is a very fine tribute to all those dedicated fire-workers. My prayers go out to them, to the animals, to the vegetation, etc.
NOTES
Your rhymes are awesome! Especially the inventive slant rhymes, like neglect and unchecked
Love all the F and Us ounds here:
Fires fuelled by gusting winds 'neath a rampant blazing sun
Our firey's are in combat when a fire's on the run
Some of the lines are disjointed and some internal punctuation would help. Examples:
*No back burning has been done, no maintenance(,) no care
*They stand before this monster(; or --) retreat's not in their plan
Here, three gerunds in a row weakens the voicing slightly (to my ear):
It's a daunting task facing a hundred feet of flame
Standing all alone with a hose and no hope of rain
SUGGET:
It's a daunting task to face a hundred feet of flame
Standing all alone with a hose and no hope of rain
*
Our firey's are amazing(-- or ;_ they don't quit till it's done
*
For eight long weeks(,) this fire's been slowly gathering pace
*
Shells of homes(,) and burned(-)out wrecks(,) and people's broken lives
Perfect closing note:
Then there is the wildlife and its struggles to survive
Love the title too!
This is a great offering of poetic support for thier tireless efforts.
Touching.
Warmly,
rd

You did a super job with this poem. With wonderful meter and well chosen rhymes, it was a pleasure to read from start to finish. Fire fighters are as brave as any soldier on the battlefield and it's nice to see a tribute to them. Hugs, Lou

I think the death toll is presently around 10 which given the extent of the fires is decidedly small. Another 20 or so are listed as missing. Thank you for reading and reviewing. Your comments are always appreciated
Comment from LaRosa
Fireys are amazingly courageous, there are really no words to define them or to thank them enough. But, you have done a good job trying. I feel the families are also pretty awesome, knowing anything can happen. Yet they stand by.
You mentioned 'no back burning' was done and it makes me think of when the whole idea was frightening. Why start a fire, when anything terrible could happen? It did once or twice in our state. Now I see the need. Lightening and careless people have no consideration of the trouble they cause to dry brush.
Your poem is perfectly rhymed. Line 8 made me smile.

Beautifully written Bob. You've written a beauty here dear friend, these are quality stanzas and words. Yes, the despair and hopelessness of the victims is clearly written al over their face. The firies are pretty amazing, they are exhausted, but still they carry on. A wonderful poem Bob, in heptametric stanzas and aabb rhyming, you are only the second I know of to write one, well done, blessings, Roy
