Nice start to your new project. I esp. like the touch of the cardinal red on the scene. and also the "trembling silence in the trees" - also the snow lying like pages in an old book, listening to the earth.
Well done.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your detailed, encouraging review. I guess that cardinal image was a hit, that seems to be the general consensus, and I am glad the poem really seems to have resonated for you. estory

I love the imagery, voicing, tone and tenor of this. Lovely! I also love the simile and metaphor energy infused within, lending AHA effect. Certainly lyrical in flow and phonics. Lovely to read aloud!
Favorite lines:
Like the white pages of an old book
Holding secrets of the Earth.
There is no end to the trembling silence
In the empty branches of the trees.
Love the cardinal as a spark of spring!
My only suggestion (optional) is to not cap every line but only at the start of new sentences. Just my two cents.
Love this!
Warmly,
rd

A very well-written free verse poem about the longing for Spring during February is a little closer to Spring time when people can go outside although there is snow all around the birds start returning from the south.

Thanks so much for your wonderful, encouraging review. I am glad it seems to have resonated so well for you. Actually, we're having a really mild winter in the Carolinas so far. 75 forcasted for Saturday. My peach trees will be blooming in a few weeks if this keeps up. estory

This has strong images and metaphor to describe something that is rarely seen in the Winter, a cardinal. I like the spark of hope metaphor. Looks
to be a good start to the new series.

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful support for this poem. I am glad you enjoyed that image and that it resonated so well for you. I have a ton of cardinals in my backyard down here. A pair built a nest in my rosebush. estory

Yes, I do like the imagery of the cardinal carrying the flame of last year's candle into the spring. We can and should likewise carry with us all that is bright and beautiful from the previous season into the next - while leaving the decaying and useless behind. I enjoyed this piece.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your perspective on the poem. I am glad that the poem went on to become so much for you, that's part of the magic I think, when a poem takes flight and becomes things you never imagined. So glad it really resonated for you. estory

A pretty poem of seasons change. The part of the cardinal against the white snow carrying the candlestick forward to the next season. That is so poetic and I can just see that little dab of red against the white snow.
Good luck with your new book!

Thanks so much for your excellent review and your wonderful, encouraging remarks supporting the poem. Glad you enjoyed it so much and found it such a pleasure to read. This kind of response is what I write for. How are you making out in all the fires down there? estory
estory,
you're very welcome. The bush fires down here are absolutely horrific.
God bless and take care,
the Duchess

Wow! This is a fantastic poem that tells such a detailed story. I can easily picture the snow with one bright pop of color, the cardinal. They are such beautiful birds and brighten up the bleak winter. Great job and thank you for sharing.

Hello ESTORY,
Few sightings are as beautiful as a cardinal against the snow. I am accustomed to seeing such beauty here in the woods of northern Michigan. Your offering is, indeed, lyrical and filled with keen visual and emotive imagery.
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks so much for your excellent review and your wonderful encouraging remarks supporting the poem. Glad you enjoyed it so much and that image resonated so well for you. Down here in NC the cardinal is the state bird. A pair built a nest in one of my rose bushes. estory

Hello estory!
Our home is a haven for nesting birds - mostly finches and robins. But last year, in the wisteria vine that grows onto our deck and up the roof of our home, we were blessed by cardinals. Loved them!
Take Care,
diane

And we're back to February and the cold... Brrrrr! (not that I'm not already bundled in blankets here, Estory... what a perfect description of the coldest month to come... February. Not looking forward to this one... except that when it's done we'll be closer to the spring! :)

Thanks so much for the excellent review and the interesting comments. you must still be in Northern land...you need to move down here. In three winters, I've had a grand total of 7 inches of snow. And Saturday is forcast to be 75. My peach trees will be blooming in a few weeks if this keeps up. Daffodils are already coming up too...estory
