A beautiful ballad offering, Dawn, and what a warm and welcoming presentation... the reader can almost feel the warmth from the sunlight streaming in as they approach the book on the table, the rhythm of the words calling them forward.. ;) :) Just a suggestion (and please feel free to ignore and forget I even suggested it) to change 'when it's read' to 'when consumed'.... simply to avoid the two "it's" so close to each other. Again, please don't get upset and forget I even suggested it if you feel yourself doing so -- you don't even have to acknowledge. :) :) :) I think this would make a wonderful 'first page' to a book of daily bible reflections... :) :) Thanx so much for sharing! ;) Yvette

Silly wabbit. :)) How could I be upset with you for suggesting something you think is an improvement? I might not agree, but I love that you care, and this time, I agree.*grin* Thank you, Yvette!
Just one problem -- "consumed" makes me think of food...(LOL)

Gee Dawn,
I have had my Bible for some 70 years. It is probably a good indication of my devotion that it is still in prime condition. I can, however, understand what joy a new Bible could bring to you.
Blessings

Ah, but mine was lost along time ago (a beautiful, leather-bound, maroon-colored, King James...*sigh* -- stolen when my apartment was emptied when I was out of the country) and replaced by one that was already well-worn. (Lol) I can't remember exactly where I got the replacement, but I think it was somebody's lawn sale... :)) Thank you, dear man.

I am glad to hear your wish was unexpectedly granted during a Christmas dinner. I once again admired your rhymed quatrains in a spiritual poem. Here's to peace and sweet dreams- Joan

Such a beautiful poem, Dawn. And your presentation is absolutely divine. Simple, pure clean lines to go along with a most accomplished verse.

And what an interesting story goes along with it. This is how I see poems presented.

Best to you in the New Year. You've earned it. :)

Nice set of 3 quatrains reiterating the important of reading the scriptures to keep the luster of life alive and maintain peace. Then of course more truth is found in the pages, too!

Your poem was lovely, Dawn, and your author's notes just go to show the kindness that is in so many people's hearts. You would never have known this, I think you were led to accept her invitation this time. The angels are watching over you, my friend. Happy New Year! :)) Sandra xxx

I gave this 6 stars because not only was it a great rhyming piece but it was also religious.
I wrote one called my Bible and I go through some of the Bible in the poem I have to go and find it and post it but I only and normally post religiously on the Sabbath.
I must have about 50 Bibles including Book of Mormons.
I lost my wife's Red letter Bible which was a shame cuz it had all her family history in it beautiful pictures and everything and Saint Matthew of course was when Jesus spoke was in red print.
But I have this little bible I got from another church put out on the table when they have their one day a week where they feed everybody would donations and they have clothing and things laid out and also you can get your shopping cart of food.
I've seen religious things before they are to be given away people die and that's when I saw the little black Bible.
It had the woman's name in it where she lived in New Jersey and it was dated 1912 very old King James version.
An amazingly enough for being something over a hundred years old it's in really great shape!
Thanks Dawn!

This is very cleverly constructed. The first two stanzas follow the strict metrical pattern of ballad metre, which is catalectically broken in the first line of the second stanza, a line of only seven syllables with a feminine ending. The next line with its trochaic start and additional syllable (seven rather six) restores the overall balance to the poem -- a clever piece of poesy a lot of people on this site would not understand and some might even take you to task for it.

But I think it is worth six stars.

Wow, this is a day I will not soon forget -- my deep appreciation and gratitude for your kind, most generous and detailed review. I learned, for example, what a catalectic line actually is -- a metrically incomplete line of verse, lacking a syllable at the end or ending with an incomplete foot. (I am writing its meaning out herein only so that I have it, and maybe it will sink into my memory -- *smile* I have no real training in poetry, only music, so I am unfamiliar with most of the terms you use... I learn from you!)

Anyone who might 'take me to task' is welcome -- I will simply copy YOUR review for that reviewer. :)) (You do see why I so seldom visit your work, yes? It's not because I don't love it, only that I feel unqualified to review it.)

    Thank you very much!

This poem is so wonderfully written and beautifully presented. I love how well the image and the general appearance of the poem fit the topic of your poem. Very impressive.
