"It would cost him dearly, this penned gift of love. A loss of a leg, most of his right hand, and scars would mar his handsome face. He would survive the battle, but lose his will to go on." I was NOT PREPARED for this!

"Most of the men were in love with her before she left for the day" I liked this line!

"The bride was dressed in love and so was the groom." But THIS LINE is far better!

    Thank you for your always kind reviews and encouragement. I will make sure I have fanned you to keep you close to me. I am blind and this helps me in my reviewing as well. Have a wonderful week.

You had my tears and my heart in this one. Perfectly done, I see no problems to note. I missed the first as my eyesight keeps me from reading prose but this one begged to be read

If only he hadn't been so adamant about sending the letter just then, things would have been different. At least, she found him before it was too late, and now has his child.

Eleanor certainly tried hard to find Reginald. Muffins conquer all! Also, down-to-earth honesty.
She called to the nurse. "Do you have a hospital Chaplin?"
I think you mean Chaplain

Here is a good line. The bride was dressed in love and so was the groom.

Nice share.

    Thank you for the helpful critique. I am a Charlie Chaplin fan and use his quotes often in my writing. It looks like an auto-override here. LOL! I appreciate the kind review and stars, dear Crystal.

Bravo! Good one Sal. I never watched the video but I can imagine the rest. As a solder I can relate to some of this and know the importance of mail call. Thanks and good wishes.

Well done. The emotion was raw and palpable. The reader could feel the love between the two. It read smoothly and had good flow to it. Well done piece.

What a beautifully told love story, so tragic yet wonderful at the end, though i was rooting for it to be different. You revealed so much about them with your words Very interesting poster.

    Dear Faye, thank you so much. It's good to see my love letter fans again. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I'm a history nit, especially the world wars. This recruitment poster was a rare find and I just felt imspired to write a story around it. Letters were are still so important to the morale of our soldiers.
    Thank you also for the honoring six stars and kind compliments. It is so appreciated.

Sally,

Okay... I understand now. I thought you were gonna make this a little longer and so I was really surprised when Gerry died at the end. A bit sad, too. After all that - his dedication to his love and to his country - that he had to die was sad.

But this piece was nicely written and easy to follow. It told a wonderful love story. The kind that was meant to last.

Some notes:
1.) There was one overworked clerk, stationed behind a tall mahogany
--> no comma

2.) There were at least a three hundred soldiers with the last name of
--> delete the 'a'

3.) "I'm not for certain, but I think he may be my fianc???©.
--> edit out Eddie's symbols

4.) "Please, my fianc???©'s dying and we wish to marry before he
--> ditto

Thank you! I enjoyed--

    Thank you so much for the excellent review and helpful critique. Yes, I tried to use spell check while in basic editor. It doesn't like French words. It didn't display until I posted. Drat. Evil Eddie strikes again. I'm so glad you liked it. Yes, it is sad as love is sometimes shorter than we would have liked. I have a good friend who lost her husband early on. :(
    Sending you my best today as always,
