This is a lovely Christmas poem. The words are fresh and appealing. The picture perfectly accentuates the words, and the words accurately describe a baby eating an orange, and comparing it to Christmas. I think this is a good contest entry.

A very well-written Christmas poem about the littlest things that can make a little child happy. The taste buds are the only measure to tell what they like.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I always used to receive an orange in my Christmas sack and back then it was a real treat as there were not many of them about. Your poem reminded me of life back then, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Oranges used to be such a treat especially at Christmas now we have so much to choose from we forget the really good stuff but this baby can still appreciate oranges at Christmas. Cute and well written.

I think this is a good entry for the Christmas Poetry contest.
Not everyone likes the same things for Christmas, as you say here.
Well done and I wish you luck with the contest.

One wonders where you could pick oranges at Christmas time. I enjoyed your poem because it's so easy to visualize the baby eating its first orange, the juice dripping down its chin, those "blue eyes sparkling." Definitely a memorable moment for those who are there. Rod

This is such a fine and unique Christmas poem, Mia. But, yes Mandarin oranges were always a treat at Christmas and you have captured the baby's wise choice with vivid imagery and brightness.

Wishing you much luck with the Contest Committee. :))

What a lovely free verse offering tying the scents and tastes of the season to the lights and delights of the participants at the celebrations -- short and sweet and oh, so special!! :) Thanx for sharing and good luck! ;)

Mia,

Sweet poem -- hahaha -- get it? haha

I know.. lame.

This poem brought back such beautiful memories for me. My grandfather used to buy a case of oranges to share on Christmas - a holdover from his own childhood when they were such a special treat. Of course, nowadays, we can get them anytime, and they don't mean so much. To him, raised before the Depression, a fresh orange was the world. Thanks for the smile. Good luck!
