This is a gorgeous very simple poem with a very important message. I am in my 60s now and look back with great nostalgia at the way life used to be and the way most people used to treat each other. As you said, everyone needs compassion. I see less and less of it.

This well-written, moving poem makes effective use of specific details to contrast yesteryear with today. I remember a time when a really bad or dishonest person stood out simply because he/she was UNUSUAL!
