This is a lovely tale of the humility and truth behind Christmas. I love the tradition that you have developed invoked by 'The concept is that whatever kind of cake is made, it is decorated with white icing, blue lettering and a single candle. The youngest person at the table gets to blow out the candle. The lettering says, 'Happy Birthday Jesus', and the child starts the singing of the happy birthday song'.
I think it is very important to escape from the overcommercialisation of Christmas. My first grandson is just one year old, and his (very religious) parents have decided that each person may only give one present to the infant.

Neat tradition explained and detailed. I had heard of it before in passing somewhere, but how amazing someone here can actually explain it from start to finish. I like the idea of having the children get involved in the choice of cake, because it personalizes their feelings about the time of year and Jesus, too. I don't know if Jell-O minds being spelled out all the way. Thanks for posting!
