Would have been six stars but I didn't have anymore. What a creative take on the advent calendar. A lot of truth but certainly no what we are suppose to take away from the advent calendar. Very well written and a great contest entry.

This does sound like a horrible Christmas, and most of it from the character's own making and attitude. It doesn't appear the new year will bring anything brighter either.

I'm giving you six stars for excellent creativity. I'm hoping that means that you are enjoying the Christmas season and the birth of Christ, and that this horror story represented the opposite to your real life. I love that line that you just wanted peace of mind, not peace on earth.

That is another great line about being so tired of the Hallmark movies.

You hit the nail right on the head with the truth about parental suffocation disguised as love.

I love this line talking about growing up in a toxic family where people don't deal with healthy thoughts and feelings and training you to live in the real world. Merry Christmas!

"Several years apart, but the same excuse. Obviously, it was me." What a great (a sad) line!

"When you're an only child, parents place their eggs all in one basket, so to speak" Another winner!

Wow... and Advent calendar and a horror genre - I enjoyed. I'm glad you didn't do the revenge killing ideas. Yours was far more creative!!!

I really enjoyed this. I liked how you quoted scripture.
You write in a way that is spiritually suggestive.
This is key for grand writing.
Nicely written
