Great writing in this novel progression, Barbara. They are still so far away from answers, but their dialogue is starting to sound like they have layers of experience working on this issue for a long time, now. Eager to find out ending coming up soon.
This is the tiniest of the teeny fixes:
Logan studied the backdoor
I would put a space between 'back' and 'door.'

I came in late to the game, but the story held my tension from start to finish. Trying to solve a murder always makes an interesting story, and sometimes it turns out to be someone very close to the deceased. Your characters are well developed, it was not hard to follow the relationships, and it was a great read. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if Simon is giving Logan ideas. Seems he's happily married, and Logan is alone... or would be without Mac on the case. Or is Sheila giving Mac ideas? Or am I just full of ideas? :)

I can understand Mac being frustrated at having people keeping watch over her all the time, but she has received threats. A visit from Simon and Sheila helps bring Logan's feelings out in the open. Mac and Logan are being followed again. They can't go anywhere without some incident. They'll now have the license plate number to go on. Simon makes a good observation that if Mac isn't speaking to him sometimes that might be her way of dealing with her feelings. Great character development. judi
