So true that money does not make up for actual time with a parent. You covered it well from the perspective of a child growing up without parents and missing a real home.
Congratulations on the win, Jen!!!

Jen,

Oh, my. It's clear why this poem won the Emotions contest. Besides being very well written, it contains a LOT of different emotions - and none of them worth bragging about. I imagine there are a lot of kids in this position, don't you? What a sad state!

Perhaps you even gave someone here pause... wouldn't that be awesome?

Thanks so much and congrats!

"Rich Dad" is an extremely well-written and thought-provoking piece. To me, this is a six, but I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post.

    Jen,
I'd have preferred it to be a true six,

This was a beautiful poem, and I can see why it won the contest. Well written, perfectly expressed, you bring across the "gratitude" for being able to buy the best, coupled with that sorrow from not having a dad who can spend more time with you. When I finished reading, I said "naww, that's so sad".

Well done, well won!

You write well.
I like how you choose black and yellow font.
I also liked the picture you used to help illustrate your poem.
Nice work!

Being rich isn't everything it can by a fathers love. Too wrapped up in his own world to take time out of his world to be a father is sad.

Good job on the story of the poor little rich girl, who has everything she could want except her absentee father. Maybe the chickens will come home to roost in a "cat's in the cradle" circumstance when Daddy is old and infirm. (One never knows in these fiction situations.)

Ciao Mystery poet. I gave you your 4th vote.

Reading your poem felt like I was reading about my life.

My parents made their fortune in the travel business..they were always gone for work . I started going to boarding school when I was 6 and a 1/2 .. 4 different ones ...until I was nearly 22.

There was no family life , no Christmases or Easters or Summer holidays together just fleeting moments and lots of presents.

We were strangers when finally at 22 we lived under the same roof.

It lasted only 12 years then my parents went to live in Spain.. They always had itchy feet I guess .. I stayed home in Italy.

My mother died suddenly in 2006 so my father came back home to Italy..

Of the 40 years I had my mother we spent only 15 together .. That saddens me, still now.

PS. The first 5 years I was taken cared by the state ..when my parents finally built their business my mother came to reclaim me. She never signed me off for adoption.

I hope you have better luck and your papa ' realises that you want him in your life and not his money.

I love the artwork too .

Many thanks for the review and the story of your life. How tragic. Your parents should never have had children. Thank you so much for the vote. I really appreciate it.

Your poem is well written , I thought it was true but from your reply I understand it's fiction..

Sorry for opening up , I didn't want to cause any embarrassment but you had me fooled. Your description was so real to me.

Glad to see you are leading in the contest.

The saying that the rich also have problems becomes real in your first person narrative. I love how you express the loneliness one can feel even with all the creature comforts one could afford and desire. Good luck in the contest... ...ec

I think this is a good entry for the Emotions writing prompt.
Your verse tells of a rich father who gives you everything but himself.
Well done and good luck to you with the contest.
