I never heard about this word present-silver and you put it nicely in a poem as a Christmas present. Good luck with the contest and thank you for sharing.

This is interesting. I've never heard the word before. Present silver! I'm going to enjoy seeing my kid's faces when I tell them they're getting present silver for Christmas!

I must object! The phrase "present-silver" is precisely that: a phrase that comprises two very common, well-known words. The author is saying that the juxtaposition of these two words gives us a new word.
Shall we accept this composite neologism? Shall we include this curious "coinage" in the OED? Five silver coins for this poem.

This is a good entry for the 797 holiday contest. You have successfully used the correct syllable count. I have never heard of present-silver before, so you taught me something new. Great job and thank you for sharing.

This is a good contest entry. Good job of meeting the contest guidelines. I also liked your use of "salver" for some thyme and additional non-mainstream terminology.

Good word - unfortuantely for some of the older g.kids this year that's what we must give - since we have no idea what they like anymore - as they grow older. And I guess that's ok - cuz they can buy what they want.

Gail, thank you for the generous six-star review, we too are stumped on grandkids gifting so we are doing Barnes and Noble gift cards. :)

Hello anon, this is very well done. I've not seen a 7/9/7 before and the subject you had to write about is quite difficult I think. You did very well and the added picture is a good choice. Good Luck - regards Dorothy

I was curious enough about 'present-silver' to consult Alexa, but her shrug didn't deter me. when my dictionaries wouldn't help, I turned to the ultimate authority, but Google must have consulted Alexa, and that was a shameful waste of a millisecond.

Is it possible that giving 'present-silver' is a family or regional practice, rather than an obscure word? You can tell me. I won't squeal.)

You did a splendid job with your entry, mystery poet. I remember getting silver dollars for Christmas as a child. Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sally :)
