These dogs are amazing. You include some interesting background information about the use of dogs for police work. The German Shepherds are so well suited to the tasks they're asked to perform. Isn't Assassin the perfect name for a police dog? The name alone would scare folks. I thought you might have had a bit more about the services these dogs perform in Dr. Marti's last comment. judi

First let me say that is one beautiful dog! I found your script packed with helpful information about the origins of police dogs. This would be a good start to a crime novel. A police dog hero, so to speak, that solves the crime. Enjoyed reading your work.

Even our small town has a K9 unit on the police force. I think it is a good choice to use these dogs to sniff out drugs and weapons. Even criminals who may be hiding from the police. Well done Brett. Nancy:)

And that pretty much surmises the origins of police canines - did you mean 'summarises' rather than 'surmises'?

Thanks for this entertaining dramatised history or police doggery! I didn't know anything about its origins and found it fascinating. I know dogs were used to keep prisoners at Eagle Hawk Neck from escaping, so maybe we have our Tasmanian share in the history too.

I never knew using dogs on patrol went back that far. Very interesting. I knew about the Germans training shepherd and dobies. Their breeding of the dobies took a long time to overcome. At one time, these dogs weren't considered fit to be pets, but look at them now!
