Bravo on the win Raul. Your story gave us a glimpse into a man's final days. Surrounded by family and having the time to appreciate loved ones is captured nicely. Good one, judester

To say a final good-bye isn't always so easy. And to pull the plug on someone's life isn't no fun either. It's easier to say, I'll see you again soon. Or perhaps I'll see you in heaven.

This is both sad and also peaceful. That is a very good old age and many would be very grateful to live that long, I certainly would, so many people die much earlier in life, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

That was very nice of grandpa to comfort his loved ones in their time of grief. His words are very powerful and comforting. Very well written. Great job and thank you for sharing.

Nice sentiments. My dad died at 95, but he certainly didn't have such impressive final words. He simply stopped talking for his last few days. I wonder how many people do have meaningful final words? This is the way it ought to be, though.

Thanks! I'm so happy that you enjoyed my story! Yes, people should have their final words in their last year.

Unusual last name, which made me think of Childs or Peppers. It sounds like this was a true believer in heaven and God. It sounds like this older gentlemen was remarkably lucid and coherent for his age. His voice might have been a little whispery in real life. Henry is a good name choice for someone pushing 100. Nice job.

This is a good entry for the contest. The piece is dominated by Grandpa Chiles' words, and that fits well with the contest's remit.
I only picked up on one minor point you might like to consider:
I am very old and can't go one any longer. -- Spag. I assume you mean "go on".
Good luck with your entry in the voting booth {smiles}.

Having that time to say final words of love and of parting is a wonderful blessings indeed. A good response to the this prompt told from the hand of those Grandpa leaves behind... ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck at the polls! ;)

A nice touching write, with a well rounded and atypical final words... I do like the cheery nature and to greet death with open arms and as a friend would a gracious way to go... so to thank all those around him, to give a final message of hope in a goodbye is the best way to go! Hope I get a chance like this :)
