A perfect picture to compliment your poetic imagery. Both chilly and picturesque. My pleasure to read and review.

I love the winter up north, I'm from Dayton Ohio, but settled in Tennessee. We never see any snow. This poem is wonderfully written and I love the picture.
Good luck in the contest!
Merry Christmas and God bless.

You've described all of the elements of winter superbly with such a limited syllable count. I love the beautiful and descriptive wording and enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!

It's an interesting point of view that things of beauty are also often unwelcome to us, or at least very uncomfortable! Dry or wet, hot or cold, extremes of nature fascinate us. Thanks for sharing!

I love the stark simplicity of this and the swift crescendo in pacing leading to the wonderfully witty and ironic (thus effective) closing line. Bravo. Superb word economy. Superb presentation.
I do think you might reconsider punctuation choices for stronger flow and dramatic effect. Here are some ideas:
Winter:
cold, icy, bitter--
lovely
or
Winter.
Cold, icy, bitter...
Lovely
or
Winter:
cold, icy, bitter...
Lovely
Almost a six...bravo!
Warmly,

Thank you. All great ideas. The contest already ended but I may change it to just make it a better poem!

I came in 3rd in the contest. Maybe your punctuation would have helped!

I was born in Brooklyn, and although I miss seeing new, fallen snow, I do not relish the cold. Thank you for capturing the contradiction in this succinct poem with the matching artwork. Best wishes in the 2-5-2 contest- Joan

Hard to believe something can be bitter and beautiful at the same time! But winter does fit that profile. As long as I can warm up inside, it's not too bad. A good fire and a cup of hot cider can go a long way! Lovely entry.

Hello anon, a well written 2/5/2, accurate in presentation and as you say both lovely (in appearance) and brutally cold and miserable. A good piece on a form that is not easy. Good Luck - regards Dorothy

You pulled me in with the emotions of your message of winter loneliness, and your artwork choice enhanced your message. I enjoyed reading your poem and thank you for adding your author notes. Best wishes!

Great job with this contest entry about the contrast between the beauty of winter and the extreme harshness in some areas. you can enjoy the view in some cases, it can also kill you in another situation.
