Excellent photograph of the crowd turned out to greet the Pope. He is like a superstar, with the public eager to see him. That is a great analogy. You give a specific that he is able to fill stadiums. Great subject for the contest, and best of luck. judi

Thank you Judi, glad it appealed to you..
Once the Pope was a distant figure for the mass but after John Paul 2 started to visit all the faithful around the globe the Pope achieved a whole new status..
The public could see and hear him and interact with him.
The popes who came after continued the to visit and gain always more popularity.

You're welcome. It's good for the people that the Pope gets to visit the people. Steps have been taken to ensure his safety, too. judi

Ali Agca a Turkish who had also just murdered a journalist in his country , he fled to Italy and then shot the Pope John Paul ( 1981) .
Two years later the Pope visited him in jail and thanks to the Pope he was released in 2000.
He was then extradited to Turkish to be trialed for killing the journalist .. He got out of prison in 2010.
Ciao Judi!

Oops! Sounds like this guy is a repeat offender. I wonder what he's been up to since he was released from prison in 2010. I always enjoy your comments. judi

All I know is that he changed religion and became a Roman Catholic and he went to visit Pope John Paul's grave in 2014..and left some white roses..
...apparently he also voiced the desire to become a priest after but I never heard he did on the news.
I enjoy immensely your essays on Lincoln .
Ciao Judi!

I think this is a good Lune Poem for the contest.
Your short verse tells of Pope Francis being a superstar.
Well done and I wish you good luck in the contest.

Well said, Franca. I know that during the time we lived in Italy, the Pope did have a superstar kind of persona. I like your Lune poem and it is a fine entry for the contest. Good luck.

I think with John Paul 2 the figure of the Pope began to become more popular...
....he started to travel and be in contact with the public and his popularity from then on just grew...
The popes to follow continued to travel and reach out to the catholic community over the world ..
