Your poem voices what numerous Americans are feeling these days. Our leaders don't seem to see anything past their party affiliations. Yet, they wonder why so many Americans no longer vote, and why those that do feel as if they are choosing between the lesser of two evils.

It is so sad to me that books like Animal Farm, The Giver, Lord of the Flies and 1984 have been eliminated from school curriculums. But then, kids are being so brainwashed, they probably wouldn't get it anyway. Keep writing. Maybe someone will get it. There was a twilight zone episode about this.

It's sad, I know. I'm 67 and my heart breaks for the way things have become in our country. It hurts when they call President nasty names! It's disrespectful and our kids are hearing more than we think they do! When at a football game and they play the National Anthem and you know who the older people because they're the ones standing with their hand over their heart and singing. And when the football teams on national television were going to stop playing it. and then those football players who were kneeling during the anthem and I know they weren't praying!! Talk about role models. OK I'll shut up and get off of my soap box now! good post!@@

Patty, please never shut yourself up about the real truths that we need to emote! We must all state with reasonable angst our disaffection with the current state of affairs, in hopes some will hear our pleas!

your poem expresses level of empathy. Yes our country is going through challenging times. You however focus on the children, our caretakers. I liked the play on words from dimmer to slimmer. The dark is dark but is getting even darker. Thank you for sharing
