I just finished reading your contest entry "Writing a short poem in no more than fifteen words." Your short lines paint an excellent picture of what is going on in our country these days. Very well written. I know how difficult it is to write and make sense in a limited number of lines.

The true disaster is that the voters knew what they were getting when they elected Trump, and even now when his true colours are clearer than ever, they find some way to rationalise his corrupt actions and still support him. I'm afraid the damage done to America's democracy runs deep and the political divide is vast.

I realise your poem is more general and the criticism is probably about leaders on both sides. I do see a number of good people vying for the Democrat nomination - let's hope a strong and sincere leader can rise from amongst that group.

Yes, it is a sad state of affairs. Being up in Canada we all watch and wonder what's next? We must keep praying and hope for a miracle. Is there anyone that can stand in the gap? I just keep looking up. God bless, Laura

You are not alone. I too think it's a disgrace. The damnocrats in the House have gone mad. They are not normal. I think we should have the army round them up and put them in a mental asylum where they can't further harm our country.

Yes, we so need to pray for the future of the nation, the leaders and of course, the lives of our children and grandchildren. Keep praying and faithful - God has provided for the Church under the most circumstances.

You have pointed to the problems.
Yes, it is true, our representatives in Congress, both parties , are coloring outside the lines. That is our biggest concern because if we don't follow the rules chaos will prevail and we will be locked up by the thought police that consider us criminals because we do not believe according to their views.
No one will follow the rules because the rules have not been defined and an accusation becomes its own proof.

The resolution will not be determined by guns and knives, rather weapons that will destroy us. History reminds that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were inferior weapons of destruction measured by our present ability to end civilization.
Meantime China is gaining a significant advantage in our stock markets by hiring eager lobbyists and catering to large corporations such as Nike.
We ignore this threat, but our people in Congress are controlled by the Ruling Class.
Why do countries engage in weapons building? Become they believe it is necessary. As one writer has said,
"...riches so hardly come by cost still more fear and worry to preserve; safeguarding a fortune is a wretched chore."

I liked this a lot. The main reason is that you didn't express a particular political view, but rather expressed your concern about our country. Very well said..best of luck in the contest.

For a short poem, it said quite a bit, I like the rhyming words you used...sadly I do agree with you, something is happening, we were once a country that could be depended upon because of our greatness.

Times have changed, it's not how it seems to be right now...We need to get together, no matter what we call ourselves, we just have to think in terms of "us", and not just "I"...I also Pray for better days.
I'm an elderly woman, (85) well past my prime but I do worry for young one's...what's it going to be like for them...will this country still be holding true to our Constitution, or will we forget all of that and start anew...I question the future..

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, personally I agree...

Warmly,
Victoria

Victoria, you are the same age as my oldest brother-in-law and he also is shocked about the "I" ness of our leaders.

There's something fine about old age, (tell him I said that) LOL.

I can remember the old days when I was a child, and my Mom and Dad planted tomatoes and corn in the back yard for our neighbors, that was for us...Have a wonderful Day!

The fiasco that is being performed in Washington, doesn't bear watching yet we are watching. This is more like a lesson in how not to be the majority of congress. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Indeed, what happened to "We the People". I can't go on it is too stupid. The congressmen and women in the Democratic Party are beyond listening to.

Raffaelina, thank you and yes enough is said, we simply must pray for leaders to step forward and oust the old guard.

A very finely tuned piece with great ideas that flow nicely together. It reads out very well and your word choices are accurate and your connections are clear. I like the fervency of this piece too. It has some really good key points to think on. Your presentation is also very clear and bold; the picture coheres well.
