This is an incredible lesson for youngsters. What a great tribute for veterans. I thinks this would be something kids should have at school to read.
This story in poetry is very well done and an amazing entry for the contest.
All the best, Laura.

Thanx so much for your wonderful review and those bright, shiny stars -- just got in from our Veterans' Day parade and remembered why my muse must have whispered this idea to me: those vets are just so damn happy that folks are there... you can just see it on their faces not matter how young or old! You reach to shake their hand and just say a simple 'Thank you' and their hand squeezes tighter and their eyes brighten up... EVERYONE should be sure to do that, ya know? :) :) And their interactions with the kids/youth along the route make your eyes tear up.... :) :) Take care out there (wherever you guys are right now!!)! ;) :) Yvette

This was utterly priceless Yvette. The words were so true, but rarely addressed. The picture deeply represented the truth of the words. It was very much enjoyed and appreciated. Very well done.

You are so welcome Yvette, it's great for them. We are in Arizona now and will be for a while. Tomorrow I will type up the adventures of getting her lol.

This is a really lovely and moving poem. Through the eyes and words of a kind-hearted, aged veteran, you have conveyed a message of hope for a peaceful, safe future for these children and the country.

Thanx so much, Janice, for stopping by on this one -- our Veterans' Day Parade was today and to see those older vets interacting with the kids/youth along the parade route was just a reminder where this inspiration came from! ;) Love to shake their hands and clap and watch them react: they deserve every smile we can give them and so much more! ;) :) Yvette

Congratulations on this beautiful, meaningful piece. War is so sad isn't it? My great grandfather was one such veteran who fought in WW2 and fortunately survived. Good luck with the competition!

This is an awesome poem Yvette, as it brings to life the old vet who speaks so kindly and honestly to these two kids. I loved the wording and smooth flow of it, and could feel the eagerness in the children...and the awe.

Thanks for sharing xoxo

It is a brilliant poem Yvette, so the pleasure's all mine. And I'm glad you really drank in the Veterans' Day celebrations. I think they all feel shell-shocked to this day and any good feeling they are offered is bound to make them feel like it was worth it. Good on you for making them smile!

Hi Yvette,
I like how you have turned this whole event on its head. The young ones are supposed to be there to honour him, but instead he is thanking them
for coming to remember his comrades. I like the flow of this poem and the story behind it.
I hope the young ones of today do remember these soldiers for their bravery that gave them their freedom.
I loved this.

Kudos, dear Yvette!
What a wonderfully creative and original take on the "Pix This Challenge Group" poem! The veteran in your photograph exudes a persona that would, indeed, speak to "Ben" and "Charlynn" in the manner you portray.
And what moving advice for him to render!

Beautiful when read aloud!

Thank you for sharing!

Hey there, Beautiful Friend!! ;) Thanx so much for these wonderful stars! :) Popped in briefly last evening to post this and my little hedgehog and then went and enjoyed some more time with my oldest home! He came home to get some vehicles ready for and ride in the parade today: all through high school (summers and weekends) and when he would come home on a weekend here and there for weekends during college he worked at the Military Museum restoring old vehicles back to working condition.... so he does so enjoy showing them off for the parade!! ;) :) Just got him back on the road and thought I'd check in and see what's up... and what a beautiful surprise!! ;) I'm so very glad you enjoyed this one - when the idea hit me, I just had to sit down and let it roll... ;) :) Been missing those 'inspired' moments so, it really felt good! ;) :) Hope you've survived the snow and that you're enjoying that pristine air with the serious chill!! ;) :) Oh, and the beautiful snow pic from your garden.... I'll be looking for it soon!! ;) :) Take care of you up there and stay warm, m'Lady Diane!! ;) Yvette
