A great poem on war and hopefully peace for our young ones.
He hopes they never have to kill anyone or stand next to dead
friends. This is a very powerful poem. Great artwork.

Thanx so much for your wonderful review on my Veteran's Day tribute Barbara -- always so good to hear from you! Yvette
My apologies for running behind this week -- one of our science teachers had to take a leave of absence to care for her mom and I crazily volunteered to review/mark-up the physics & chemistry science project papers for her and meet with students as necessary....what was I thinking??! lol! I am now fully reminded why I ONLY teach mathematics -- I hardly have to think with pure numbers!! :) :)

That was an exceptional narrative poem. Well thought out creating great visual imagery. Nicely focused. Clearly written. Good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Wonderful work to commemorate the military service people. God bless you :)

This poem, From Me to You, Young One, feels good as the past warrior entreats youth to build a world where war is never an option.

I'm so glad you posted this Yvette, I'm not sure why wars are fought, an awful lot are not fought defending one's coastline, they're mostly fought invading other country's coastlines, more vulnerable than one's own. My minds been dwelling More on the Plight of enemy soldiers who likewise fought for what they thought was noble, and their families who loved their kids like ours. Jesus said, love your enemies also, "they are people too" my addition! This is beautifully Written Yvette, blessings, Roy

Thank you so much, Roy! You know, every vet I've ever spoken to - currently still serving and those retired/discharged - has but one message: that they pray others won't have to 'do that'.... of course, that's when they actually talk a bout it because sometimes they avoid the subject! ;) So, yeah, I had to put that into words somehow.... :) Thanx for the wonderful review, sir! ;) Take care! ;) Yvette

I hate it when I miss something. This did so well in spite of me, I see. Superbly done and so unique and personal as he calls out the young ones by name. You have a wonderful, patriotic offering in remembrance of our veterans. Salute!
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xoxo

NO worries, Lady Sal, don't ever apologize!! You know, our Veterans' Day Parade was yesterday and to see those older vets interacting with the kids/youth along the parade route was just a reminder where this inspiration came from! ;) Love to shake their hands and clap and watch them react: they deserve every smile we can give them and so much more! ;) :) Yvette

Hello Yvette, this is a good poem and more than meets the challenge. Your message is excellent and aimed at the young who have never experienced war and hopefully never will - this is splendidly put forth in the following stanza which I particularly like -

That hand was mine before your time,
These weapons here
Not meant to fear
But guarantee that, unlike me,
You're never tasked
To kill when asked
Or stand astride friends who've died...... Very good - great poem and picture. Well done. Warm regards Dorothy x

Beautiful sentiment. It would be wonderful if our young people didn't have to suffer the pangs of war, but that is very unlikely to happen.
As the Holy Bible tells us there will be wars and rumors of wars till the
end of time. Excellent post.

Oh, Willie, THANK YOU!! ;) ;) Your wonderful review and those bright, shiny stars are so very appreciated -- at our Veterans' Day parade yesterday, I remembered why my muse must have whispered this idea to me: those vets were just so damn happy that folks were there... you could just see it on their faces not matter how young or old! You reached to shake their hand and just say a simple 'Thank you' and their hand squeezed tighter and their eyes brighten up... EVERYONE should be sure to do that, ya know? :) :) Take care out there! ;) :) Yvette

This is an excellent poem, Yvette. The men of this age were drafted into service or joined. The draft was done away with and now it's a volunteer military. Therefore these lines stand out for me:
"These weapons here
Not meant to fear
But guarantee that, unlike me,
You're never tasked
To kill when asked
Or stand astride friends who've died"
Whether they wanted to or not, they bravely stood for their country.

I like this verse that you have penned for the 'Pix This Challenge Group'.
This verse is well rhymed, tells a wonderful story, and is a beautiful tribute to Veterans everywhere.
Nicely done.

A very well-written heartfelt poem for veteran's Day and the dreams of young people who get lost in battles of war. When they are older they realize how they were fooled to be soldiers for their country don't bring fame for many but there are ones who are strong enough to make the best of their mistakes during their youth.
