Hi Jesse, I like this write, from the rhetorical question at the end to the journey of confused thoughts you take the reader on before you gain clarity and perspective. I am a thinker at my core and this is a thinking person's poem. You engage the reader to question and gauge his or her own belief systems. Sacrifice and suffering don't always lead to meaning and fulfillment, while hedonism doesn't get one there either. It's all about balance between self serving need, serving others, and receiving service from the outside world. In the Jewish faith, it is thought that a person must connect at three basic levels to achieve fulfillment in life. They must connect first to self and their interior universe, then to their community and fellow human beings, and finally to God and the universe. I've read similar thoughts in many religions besides this. There's something profound there...great write.

Wow, you've gotten so much more from this, than any other reader. You are a profound thinker, and I'm glad that this one took your fancy. You saw the questions I asked of one's belief systems. No one else saw that deeply into it. I appreciate your in-depth analysis and perspective on this. You offer some great universal advice, and comments, on not only the Jewish faith but, in all belief systems.
Thank you for giving me something deep to ponder. I appreciate your kind words very much and thank you for the excellent rating.
    Take care, Jesse

This is excellent Jesse. The world has finally come around to recognize mood disorders, seasonal affective disorders, and so many more diagnoses that at least, at last, there is a platform from which to let our voice be heard and there are counselors and psychiatrists out there who will take our symptoms seriously and NOT just throw a "pill" at us and say "See you next month." Your lines were piercing with metaphoric clarity: "mood surfing waves to decide how I feel..." is one of the best, in my opinion. If only our physical doctors would embrace this phenomenon and encourage all patients to share ALL about what they are experiencing--including emotionally and psychologically! There is so much hope and still so much more to be done...

Six Stars for sure...

Karenina

Thank you, Karenina, for your unique perspective on this piece. Only one other reader viewed this poem psychologically. Everyone else could relate to it as a writer. They saw the metaphors and analogies in a way that resonated with them. I appreciate your interest in my mental health but, this was meant philosophically to question, what constitutes the final goal of satisfaction. Thank you for your concern, and for sharing the progress with mood disorders. I am grateful for the sixth star, no matter what reason you gave it to me. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
    Take care, Jesse

Thank you Jesse, for your considerate and thoughtful response. I was not focusing on your mental health, but rather my own--as seen through your sophisticated write. Nonetheless I am certainly happy you are doing well and you have always had my support and encouragement. I've always felt each reader gets from a poem what he or she NEEDS to get from it. Satisfaction is a fleeting star we chase daily I think, in many areas of life! All my best--Karenina

I like the way to put that, about satisfaction being a fleeting star we chase daily. I agree with you. I didn't realize you were focusing on your mental health. Excuse me for misunderstanding you. Thank you for calling my poem sophisticated. I am honored and humbled by your kind response.
    Take care, Jesse

"Search for Satisfaction", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. To me, this is a six, but I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post.

We're all the cast of this performance of life! Things happen and other things don't and we sometimes can't understand either way. But as this performance comes to the end it's up to each of us to decide if the show was worth watching.

Hello Jesse,
You've written an excellent poem with wonderful imagery in the first stanza,
followed by the reflective thoughts.
Yes, all the world's a stage and we but actors upon that stage, but sometimes it's better when things don't go as planned. That's when the blood pulses in your veins, when creativity surges, and with it, satisfaction
that there is more to life than a script.
Great picture, too.
Well done
Robert

    Hello Robert.
Wow. I was just thinking about you, and hoping you would read my poem and review it. I am happy that you have. To receive an exceptional rating, from you, makes me happier still. I value your opinion highly and am thrilled to read this affirming review from you. You make an excellent insight into when we do our best, is when we are put to the test when things don't go as planned. It is scary and exciting, both at the same time. Your view is that when this happens, we are the most creative and find satisfaction. I agree completely. I do not live a scripted life. Previous plans change on a constant basis. I am glad you like the picture. Thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot to me.
    Take care, Jesse

mood surfing waves to decide how I feel.
Thank you for sharing.

"All the world's a theatre and we are its players" said Shakespeare, and how true it is.what part we play, or played, will really not be known until the books are opened to see what fruit we've borne. Beautifully written Jesse. I love the articulate thrust of your poem, it brings us all to a place of self evaluation, with rhyme and near rhyme playing in a robe of tetrametric clothing, well done, blessings Roy

In my opinion, a classically questioning view of life, written in easy and smoothly rhyming rhythm - I found the verse and presentation in its entirety fluid in thought and movement - too bad it wasn't a contest entry. It had my vote...
