Kids do share the most obvious solutions, don't they? This sound so realistic. I can just imaging one of my nieces or nephews thinking along those same lines. This was a great story and it is easy to see why you won this contest.

That is a child's logic but it is true. According to the intternet, and you know that information is always correct, milk lasts 4-7 days past the date
printed on the carton if properly refrigerated.
It is a well written short story and well worth the win. Congrats.

Congratulations on your win. I love this cute story. The literal logic of children is always entertaining. But I suspect you used this tale to underline the point that many persons, like the illiterate dog, don't bother with the fine print when it comes to expiration dates or other details. Human nature trumps carefulness, except in the case of your wife and yes, I confess, me.

I like this story because it reminds me of my wife's neurotic concern with sell-by stamps. The brilliant logic from the mouths of babes makes perfect sense for feeding the suspect milk to the dog. An animal that licks its own nethers will likely accept old milk. Funny.

This story is amusing. However, even with its tongue-in-cheek humor, this poem is a cautionary tale. I am very fortunate that I am a dowser. I actually am able to dowse if my food or anyone elses is still good. Too bad everyone didn't know how simple it could be. Some things do not have the expiration date. So how can people know unless they ask in a restaurant or at a party? This will draw the reader in to reflect upon their styles of ensuring they don't get ptomaine. Well written.

Cute, fun, and oh so interesting because it is true flash fiction. And then again sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Nothing strange in this story. It had a Norman Rockwell feel to it. Nice!

LOL LOL Very cute story here, Bill. Kids can say the darndest things, can't they? I am a nut about dates too. Inferring that the dog can have milk that was still on hand didn't help the cause I imagine. Good luck in the contwest, my friend. good entry. Bob
