Hey, I believe that one of my neighbors might be a mulahad. On a more serious note: Mr. Richards' tale (in verse) of monstrous mayhem is as tightly-controlled as it is engagingly-told. I should probably wrap up this review, be cause ... I sense ... some thing ... OH NOOOO!!!

Haha, I got a good laugh out of this. It's a shame that you are no longer there to receive my heart felt appreciation... I'm so sorry!

Thanks for the delightful review. Cheers, Craig

    [The ghost of AvL responds:]

Hey, I would sue you for death-by-online-poetry, except that specters are not recognized in U. S. courts.

But seriously, is that hideous Mulahad a "real" critter, in some culture? The name sounds vaguely Arabic to my sensitive ears ...

You are very perceptive. You are also the first out of 45 reviewers so far to pick up on my little joke. There should be a prize for that... maybe I could plant a nice garden for you to haunt? "Mulahad" is Arabic for infidel or atheist. The joke is that these people are seen as not too dissimilar from my imaginary creature in the eyes of some (not by me, lest there be any confusion).

    Well spotted!

This is a scary write and it's those ghouls that we invent that are the scariest of all! Our imagination playing tricks on us can seem so real. A slithering beast here, but I won't look! Love Dolly x

I hate to mention it, Dolly, but it's not your imagination. You'll be OK though.... I hope. Just breathe REALLY quietly hehe

I'm home alone with your scary poem so I'm glad the sun is shining outside and it's not a dark and stormy night. This has definitely got the evil chill factor. I do quite admire its egalitarian approach - pious folk get chomped as well.
This is very graphic: "It cackles in demonic glee
while ripping them apart.".... I can feel the bones cracking.

I seem to remember something about the rain falling on the just and unjust. This just takes it to a darker place, maybe? Many thanks, although it's maybe a tiny shame it's not dark and stormy, so you could get the full effect ;-) Many thanks, Craig

I'd have to have all the lights on and Abba rocking the house with dancing music.

That would be cool, mulahads love Swedish pop bands! hehehe

Oh my, I'm sitting here staring at my screen and I'm going to have to turn around eventually. Will I find one of those? Do I need a stake or silver bullets? Wonder if I can get them delivered before I turn around!

None of those will work, sadly. The only thing that can stop it is this magic incantation I've got written here. Errrrr, well, I had it here, seems the dog has eaten it! Sorry :)

This was indeed a creepy horror poem. The black and white image made is scary. The rhyme and rhythm worked great. The last line was a great finish to this horror poem. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest. ~Brenda

Hello, this is an excellent entry for the Halloween Poetry contest. I enjoyed the vivid imagery and the flow of words was very smooth as I read it through.

I liked the ending. Very strong and creepy.

I noticed no errors and thanks for sharing your poem. Eve.

Fantastic spooky take for Halloween here. Yours words demonstrate a jaunty rhythm easing the terror of the tale. Also like the black background with white script. Altogether an amazing tale well crafted.

Nicely done description of the Halloween monster. It seems it not only preys on trick or treaters, it may also prey on us writers who don't pay attention to what is happening around us.
Good luck and keep writing
Joan

Okay. I'm staying up all night on Halloween, wise guy. This is without a doubt the best entry in the contest. You are a shoo-in to take first place. I don't need to say good luck.

My God, Craig. That Mulahad beast is indeed frightening. It scared the bahookie out of me, and I certainly won't turn around.
This is a great horror poem. Dean would have been proud of you.
I Ioved your poem, and good luck in the contest. All best. Ulla:))
