Hi Bob,
so many men came back from war with horrific injuries. Most of those would pass it off as just a small price to pay compared to those who didn't come home. I think each and everyone of those men were brave.
This was a nicely written poem.

Hi Bob, I liked it though, and I liked it a lot. Yes, it could very well have been a true story. So many bad things happened during those years of war. All wars only carry bad memories. He suffered the loss of one arm, but that was probably the least he lost Again, it's a well written poem. All best. Ulla:))

Hi Bob, I liked it though, and I liked it a lot. Yes, it could very well have been a true story. So many bad things happened during those years of war. All wars only carry bad memories. A well-done poem. Yes, it is descriptive of many a soldier returning home not only with the loss of one arm but many monstrous memories. You do well to remind us of the sacrifices so many people have made.

I totally agree with your comment. We sure owe our veterans a great debt of thanks. Sadly today, too many of us forget the efforts of those who came before us.

This could be a tribute to anyone who came back from war without a part of their body. How sad it is, but you seldom hear them complain. And because they don't, veterans get pushed back to where many don't get a chance to make it to an appoint before they take their own lives. They should be right up there with being taken care of as children. They wouldn't send an ill child away, but they have turned away sick veterans.

Don't apologise, I'd gladly share that soapbox with you. I think the aged, who have worked and paid taxes all their life and the veterans who fought to defend our country are entitled to expect total support. On the other hand, those who don't work......I'll leave it at that.

Like I said in my notes it was an old poem I wrote many years ago and when I looked at it this morning it seemed to take on a new life. Thank you for reading and reviewing

Nice poem - I haven't heard any other versions of that old song. At first I thought you were taking up the Halloween theme and telling the tale of the "haunt" that went around saying "who stole my arm"
All that aside - this is a good poem and gives credit to those who serve.

I'm not familiar with that Halloween piece, in Australia we don't celebrate Halloween. Where could I find the song you refer too? Thank you for the review

It isn't a song - it's an old story that folks tell around the campfire - someone stole a corpses arm - nowhe goes around saying "who stole my arm" and then BOO

What a sad tale you created, yet through it all this veteran keeps up a positive attitude . Maybe that can be attributed to that British stiff upper lip? I' m sure there are many stories like this about people sacrificing for their country or their beliefs.

To me it highlights how much tougher our parents and grandparents were. In comparison to the difficulties they experience, we are relative wimps. Thank you for taking the time to review
