Addiction is such a dreadful thing. Young people know the stuff they're putting into their bodies is killing them, but they can't stop. Good luck in the contest.

A very somber Lune offering... you have the correct syllable count and your picture compliments your verse well... it is a very sad situation with a lot of people, young and old. Thanx for sharing and best of luck in the contest! ;)

Needle, poison, vein, death....This short work bites to the soul because you use strong words that are like a bomb to the heart. This three short words produce a reaction in the reader. This was very well written, saying a lot in three short lines.

Thank you, since the lune is so short I feel strong words are appropriate. Thank you for getting this little piece

Hi Val. Today we live in a society that is definitely faster paced, more disrespectful and people seem to take more chances than they did when I was a bit younger. Your thoughtful poem brought this to the front for me. Good luck. She's a beaut! xoxo Kiwi

You hit the syllables count and the sad truth at the same time. Nicely done and love your notes. I hope you don't have a personal relationship with the subject matter.
Good luck, again great message.

Thank you for the review . Most of us have some "person" like this in our lives. Maybe you are fortunate not to have one.

You made excellent use of the few syllables allowed in a lune poem.
It is horrifying how people fall prey to addiction, knowing fully well they could die or damage their organs.

Hello Val - I also address this problem in a contest I just entered on thIs site. The name is The Wolf At The Door, which is a lengthy version of your brief but very moving poem. I like the clarity and pain both conveyed by you. Addiction is a curse in our country, and you have stated it clearly and concisely.

Thank you for your eloquent review, as they are far too little of them. Yes, I can't think of many families that haven't been touched by addiction in one way or the other. I will try to read your's Val

yes, there are so many young kids getting in on the bandwagon these days. They seem to get younger and younger all the time! It's bad enough for older people and they know what they are doing. How does a 9-year-old decide if he's taking too high of a dose and instead of getting high, they die!

Agree, it's a very sad sight. I just listened to Neil Young's version of the "The Needle and the Damage Done"

A very well-written Lune and a valuable point about addiction in any form becomes a worldwide problem and many young people lose their lives and the devil is smiling all the way.
