This is indeed an evolution in your speculative, analytical and advisory writing, where you have chosen to expand on one the the most controversial quotes( from many) as to the signals from, going to, misrepresented by, totally false, the human eyes.
Also, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," which leaves us with, "Interpretation is in the eye(s) of the observer."
We read so many things in the eyes:
The flirtatious glance,
The downcast eyes,
Rolling eyes,
Eyes cast upward to Heaven,
The "Look,"
Direct and Truthful.
Ah, we could go on forever!
Good Stuff!

I like your example of allusion. This makes the poem more compelling. It draws the reader in because it catches their ear especially if they are reading it aloud. Your imagery is very vivid.
This is well thought out.

Thanks for sharing the suite of senryus plus all those interesting quotations. Yes, there is something striking about looking deep into someone's eyes. You can see how they perceive you as in the first stanza. I like how you allude to Ben Johnson's poem in the last stanza.

thanks for your wonderful review and I will be looking up then Johnson's porn however I suspect it has something to do with a Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes. Blessings, Darren

Yes, it's that one. And it was made into a song, too.

Window to the soul, indeed. Good poem. Recently I've had some kind of infection just under the eyes. It was beginning to bother eyesight. That is disturbing as I need eyes for writing. Yesterday prayers from friends made a difference - it's better. I'm trusting God for healing.

thanks Gail and continue to trust God for healing because you are also added to my prayers now or healing. Thanks for the review and I don't find any of this to be coincidental anymore! Blessings, and continued prayers for healing Honey Badger AKA Darren

Thank you - what an honor that you're praying for me - it's much better - hurts a bit but the eyes are clearer - I can read - God is working. Thanks.

Your words are a salve to My wounds.

Your four senryu are linked nicely with a word recurring in the stanza following (you, love, drink). Each stand along 'verse' portrays some aspect of the 'me' and the 'you' in vision when looking, and the emotions involved.

Very well stated. And when you will certainly remember,
"The stars come out at night I can tell if it's cloudy or like because I only
have eyes for you"

The eye being the window to the soul can often make us swoon with love or hate vehemently, in this case there is nothing but admiration here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
