A lovely story that describes Rey and her sweet nature so well. Sorry to hear that your wife came off second best in the entanglement. Hope Rey settles as well into her new home as she did with you.

Very well written and beautifully described the relationship between dog and human. I like your description of the silly twisting of the dog's head as they try and comprehend what we are saying to them. I felt like I understood your angst and loss which was the point of your writing. Good luck in the contest. Nice entry.

oh how sad - when this dog seemed so well suited to just what she was meant to do - and then the crash. So sorry. It must have been hard, even then, to let her go to a new home.

What a very sad ending for you and your wife, and also for Rey. I do hope he is happy in his new home. How is your wife now? It must have been a terrible crash, and after a hip operation too. This was a lovely, albeit sad, contest entry, and I wish you the best of luck. :)) Sandra xx

Sandra thank you for your kind words, I will be able to bring her home next weekend, in a wheelchair, but home and then we will begin a six to eight-month rehab program. The great thing is she will be able to rehab....yeah!

I love Rey just reading this. Such an adorable dog. I didn't quite understand the ending, believe that he crashed into your wife or tripped her? That was my take on it. I'm sure you miss Rey terribly and you obviously care deeply about your wife, that's lovely.
I think you meant to say, at the end, that "Rey, short in stature, weighs fifty-five pounds" rather than "weights."

This was a touching story about a dog that was dear to you. Although there are worse fates than being re-homed, the loss of a family pet is still significant. You added a lovely picture.
