I can't get my head around killing these beautiful creatures for antlers or for sport. I also can't get my head around their eyes being replaced with glass ones as they stare down at us from the wall on which they're mounted. But I did enjoy the poem; thought you constructed it well, and even though its content is such that animal lovers may be upset by it, I think you did well with the poem in very few words.

The poem reminds me of Bambi when they shot the mother!! My in-laws had like 3 Dear heads mounted on their big den! It was creepy! Your poem is well written and I do like the picture!

I found your explanation of this poem helped. I have never liked the idea of deer hunting. I liked the image you chose. In a few short lines you told a story. Well done. Thank you for sharing. ~Brenda

They are considered pests here in NZ(deer) they have no natural predators so breed out of control. You can hunt them all year round and mounted trophy heads can be seen in many a home.
Nice Tanka Pam

I went hunting with my father when I was only 14, I don't think dad was a hunter either, but more his friend, I discovered I didn't have much of a stomach for hunting, and apart from the shooting gallery at the fairground, never handled a gun again, well done Pam, glad about the surgery my friend, well done, good to hear from you, blessings, Roy

There are several people who put to mediums together, their paintings and a wonderful poem to go with it. Great job!
Best of luck with your writing!
Have a great day and God bless.

Reminding us of the savagery may help reduce it (a bit) maybe. But we all know, a hunter is a hunter is a hunter. Good for you that you at least bring it forward so we can comment on it. Message received. Well done.

Hello Pam. I have seen many mounted heads and not being a hunter, I would not want one around. Your tanka format is well constructed. The poetry works well with the notes and picture. Robert

Apparently, Pamusart has a real "hart" for animal-poetry, as we see in the above tanka. The boastfulness of the hunters WRT "antler size" -- shall we agree not to go all Freudian here? -- is a very nice touch. In addition, the concluding line "glass eyed trophies blindly stare" is a chillingly beautiful image: This is the essence of great poetry. Kudos.

Hi Pam, so good to see you sweet girl...I love your poem...my family are big hunters...but they are for food...the one thing I don't like are the heads on the walls...I told all of my family...God gave us the animals for food...so respect them as the Indians did...he did not give them to us to make sport of...and I hope God lets them know that when He sees them...my family...I don't kill any animals...not on purpose...I did hit a bird with my car once...and I'm still not over it...has to be 20 years...very well written my sweet friend...and I love your picture...love you...Linda xxoo
I will keep you in my prayers Pam...I have had three neck surgeries...you will be fine...God is right there with you...much love...xxoo
