I guess a little competition is good. I have great respect for athletes, but I'm afraid the only game I play is chess. Yep, it's great to win, whether it's your muscles or your brain getting the exercise. Good luck in the contest.

I having played chess competitively now that you didn?t Judy sit down and become an instant champion. You spent hours learning every aspect of the game, certainly having the mind to be moving 3 moves ahead in every possible scheme took great skill, preparation and inspiration. Congratulations!

This poem brings to mind Philippians 3:14. I press toward the mark for the prize.... In our everybody gets a trophy culture, I'm glad to see someone still advocates competition, competence and conditioning, not just showing up for the guaranteed gold plastic prize. This is a winner with me!

I love physical, competitive sports, love playing them, watching them and encouraging my daughters to play them too. You have described the passion, sacrifice and effort one needs to rise to the top and claim the win they crave. Competition... love it!

Hitcher, thank you, I want my grandchildren to follow this approach to winning as opposed to getting a trophy to just show up. I had the benefit of playing collegiate football in the 1960?s. Life was real different.

A very good poem in free verse on the competition. I especially like the lines about trust and respect. Also, hard work is involved in any competition.

Today's children are taught not to compete. They don't give first place trophies anymore. Everyone gets a participation trophy. Everyone should read your excellent poem.

Excellent thoughts about competition in this. It takes long hours of training and the ability to handle the competition. As you write, you have to bring everything you've got to the game of you want to win. You can't let up during the game. These thoughts apply to so many other facets of life.
