my family is very competitive...cheer leading for the girls in school, bowling, football for the boys, baseball, and so much more...what we all do know...that if you get into anything competitive...make sure you are all in...you will not only let yourself down in the end...but you'll let your team down as well...I love your poem...and love this picture...very well written...love Linda xxoo

The sentiment this poem expresses is completely true. Giving your all in any sporting event is the only way to go. Go big or go home just means putting your heart snd soul into whatever you do. This is a great contedt entry. Best of luck.

Competing takes a persevering mind that knows to reach the end is easy but to reach the end first takes stamina that sustains. The metaphoric picture and the coach language is par for the course and enhances the message. Well done Free Verse poem that I enjoyed reading.

Dear Mystery Writer,

I've read a few of these entries so far and I love what you are writing about the best so far -- but I don't like EXACTLY the waaayyy you're saying it - if you'll forgive me for being so indelicate. (Sorry!!!)

You may very well end up with my vote, because I do love what you're saying, but there are several places where you are quite speaking in complete sentences and I wish you'd make things more clear. Examples:
1.) Then put into action every effort, every muscle
to be tuned to your peak. (suggest:)
--> Then put into action every effort; let every muscle
be tuned to its peak.

2.) Winning comes from preparing, bearing witness to your soul, that to compete!
You must leave every ounce of the very best you bring
on the field.
To the last second of the last play, every game!
--> Winning comes from preparing, bearing witness that to compete
you must leave every ounce of the very best you bring
on the field
to the last second, of the last play, every game!

***

I hope you may see the difference. I won't deduct stars, but I do recommend edits. Thanks so much and good luck!!

This is a great entry for the competition prompt. I like that you do not just focus on the competition itself, but also on the dedication that it takes to prepare - all of the background work that goes into it. Very cool poem =)

Nickie, thank you, I learned long ago it takes 1 hour of inspiration, 4 hours preparation, for one hour of participation.

This is as true with life as with sports. It could be used in interviewing for a job or looking to reach any goal.
Good luck in the contest. Keep writing

We compete in so, so many ways in life. It is those with good discipline, work habits and good attitudes that make every difference in the world.

I do think being overly competitive is bad sometimes, though.

This is a relatively short, but precise poem for this competition. I enjoyed reading it.

I particularly like this line:
The eye on the prize has so many facets! -- It conveys the complexity of preparing for, and the competing in, sports and competitions {thumbs up}.

Best of luck with this in the voting booth {smiles}.

I like writing competitions because they involve rule-keeping, creativity, effort, good judgment, and excitement. This line spoke strongly to me:
The eye on the prize has so many facets! Best wishes in the contest!

The dedication and training that some sports take is amazing. Hours of exercise, practice, honing in on your skills. A young friend just qualified for the Boston Marathon - took weeks and weeks of running and prep.

Gail, it is an amazing personal accomplishment for one to do a marathon. The Boston marathon is one of the granddaddy?s that your friend must feel so wonderful to have made the grade to compete in this wonderful event....

evidently you like football. An ongoing competitive game everywhere right now. Liked your poem although the game of football can be a little nasty unless they have a great coach; which proves that even if you don't win you're still a great person.

In my playing days the game was about the team! Playing collegiate football in the late 60?s. Was far different, but we, each of us takes the best we can from life's experiences and do the best we can with it.
