Hi JLR, this is well written with good explanation of the benefits of competition. You use baseball as an example, but it could apply to many other types of competition. The thing that unites them all is Preparation. Being anxious to win applies to all. I like what you have written. It all makes sense and is a good read. God Luck - regards Dorothy

Yes, competition is good and traning for it as well. Competition trains us for many different things in life not just for sports. It enstills values and work ethics, as well. I was an athlete when I was younger and trained very hard. Nowadays, I train myself to write.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally :)

This is a great entry for the contest. I especially like your very first line. Competition is good for the soul! Nearly everything we do in life from day to day results in some sort of competition.

It's just our human nature to be competitive regardless of what we're doing.

I wish you the best of luck in the contest...Bill

I think competition is a wonderful thing. In England they seem to have abandoned competition in school sports as they think it is not. P.C. for kids to compete against each other. I enjoyed reading your poem. Cheers. Jen.

This poem makes a lot of good sense about being in any competition. Another good point about about competing is, if there is going to be a winner that means that someone has to lose. Learning to be a good loser is as important as being a graceful winner. You make many good points in your poem.

Yes, how true is your poem. Competition is good for the soul when it's done with complete preparation and 100% dedication to the prize. And the ability to shake hands after it's done, not matter what the outcome.

This is a superb response to this competition and I wish you great luck in the booth. :)

Hi--
As an ex football player, wrestler and track person -- the weights, meaning shot put, I do and do not agree with this. I have to say I find the up with athletics bit not very useful, say, here on Fan Story. I don't find the things that worked as a football player or wrestler very helpful here. MOST poetry writers do not want to face someone across the line, as it were, or, in a wrestling match. Yes, if you back way off that immediate glare of competition then most here are willing to engage -- but not in an athletic sense, which is the sense I think you mean. And the "war" metaphor -- that football is like a kind of war and trains you for that -- that's crap, frankly. I am not sure what I learned from athletics -- and I was captain of the football, wrestling and track teams. Not anything that has helped me much in life or at all here. That athletics teach you to be your best, maybe. But that's really ineffable.

Best

I am not big into sports myself, but I liked reading your words of confidence as you emphasised how important practising actually is. Great free verse!

Hello Poet, you certainly meet the requirements for this competition, and best of luck with your entry. I think 'sporting competition' is a very healthy thing, as long as you can also lose well. Competitive sport helps you stay focused and it's good for you to push yourself to achieve.

I have no suggestions for improvement. Your picture suits the poem and thanks for sharing it, Eve.
