I enjoyed this well written chapter in your book about the spy business. I liked how you wove humor into the interactions between the characters. you do a good job building suspense.

Much of the entangled relationships between Arnoux and Mdmsll Durand and Helen and The Lion, the French drug traffickers, and Rasheed, the separatist/terrorist, become untangled in this chapter, and it all came out in this dialogue with Sir Robert and Charles. Very James Bond, I think it comes off. It's a little bit of a break in the action, but its good to get a clearer picture of who is on whose side, and where this is going at last. You set it up for a bang up coming explosion of action. estory

Tony you deserve six stars for this terrific effort to untangle the strings of the plot and then weave then into a new design.
I think when Charles and Helen meet they will mull over the situation and the reader will have another chance to understand.
The DHC is written true to life. Affable but ruthless.
A few points:
For the sake of accuracy chapter 88 should be headed "The Deputy High Commissioner." I believe the term Assistant HC is used in UN contexts and means someone with a specific assignation.
In the write itself it would be difficult for Sir Robert to slap Charles on the back if they're both sitting down.
And a typo:
"The words 'interrogated' and 'persuaded' add up to an unpleasant euphemism." I think this should be "added up" in this particular context.

I'm not a big fan of the guys in the offices (or comfy living rooms) who stay safe and secure while they make the plans and send other folks to do the dirty work. It always seems a bit... unfair -- to say the least.

I think Les Stups includes anyone stupid enough to continue on into The Lion's den, but then, that's what novels are. If common sense applied, there would be no spy novels.
