I wanted to give you a heads up. The contest announcement says "This involves writing an essay of 350-600 words on a topic of your choice." In another place, it gives the maximum as 500 words, so the contest sponsor is a little bit confusing. However, it is clear that what is wanted is an essay, and what I'm seeing here has a lot of quote marks and dialogue. That's not an essay, it's a story. Best of luck if you choose to edit, but I thought you might want to fix it.

    It was disqualified.
    Some bullshit other reason.
My Writing name cames up as it was part of a book.
    First?
I didn't realize it was Blind so I eliminate my name.
Then the CRC or whatever mentioned my son's since I put his birth and death.
    So
    I took that out.
    It still failed.
    The other Contest on Saddness.
    Didn't get even a vote.
    I don't care
The contests are confusing and to you restricted.
    Thanks,

When Death hits we are never prepared, the only thing we can do is go with the flow and analyze it later. I know this is a painful story, thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Wow, what a compelling and heartfelt story! That ending is heart wrenching.

It could be just me, but I do not understand the purpose of the quotation marks through out your story. From my understanding, quotation marks in a story are often used for indicating dialogue. Again, it could be just me. I am no grammar expert.

Regardless, your story is engaging and emotional.

    Thanks for your review
    Poetic Friend.
And, when it comes to quotation marks?
There's two kinds the singles(') and the doubles(").
'I do believe the singles are used for conversation.'
'And, that's how I use them almost to announce and pronounce the poem.' 'As if I'm narrating it.'
'I also use a lot of capitalization.'
    'Maybe you didn't notice that?'
'For important words like God, Her, and Church.'
'Also when I'm talking about my Only Son Jason.'
