This is a different take on the Selkie legend than I've seen before. I've seen several stories of the female Selkie coming to land and shedding her skin and hiding it. A human man falls in love with her and steals the skin so she cannot return to her seal form. Sometimes he relents and gives it back he loves her so much; sometimes she finds it and leaves. She never can shake the allure of the sea and stay.
Now you show a male Selkie tempting a female human to join him in the sea and she loves it and stays. I like your take on the legend. It seems more romantic when the partners are willing.
Nice end rhyming. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks so much for reading. What you read originally was made into a film. I had to write a different take on her becoming a Selkie. Glad you enjoyed. I love myths and legends. Blessings, Kay.

Aussie,
This is fascinating story with a happy ending. I like your dialect, and 'lassie' added a nice feel to your story.
My only suggestion: You begin your poem with two words ending in ly. I think your beginning would be stronger if you changed one of them. Perhaps swimming silently.

This is lovely, Kace. For some reason, I thought Selkies were all female. Thanks for updating me. (I think I thought that because once I watched a movie about a Selkie and it was a she.) I always enjoy learning about different myths and how they got started. I think the Selkie stories are special ones. Hugs, Janet

So both male and female go to land to find a spouse while in human form.
I like this story of love and also the way you try to use Scottish/Irish dialect because that is who believes most in selkies.
I like the abab rhymes.
Good luck and keep writing

What a fascinating mythical story! You have told it quite well, in an appealing style and with vivid details. I suppose all lands have their legends. The artwork is a good match for the poem.
