This is a sad story and yet it happens so much these days. A friend of my husband's came home on day to an emptied apartment. She had taken everything except for his clothes. He had no clue as to why she left. He finally remarried and found happiness. It took a long while though. The betrayed man here has even more to deal with as children are involved which compounds the loss. A sad story in your poem sir, but it looks like the contest winner to me.

Thank you for your kind praise of WHY? I ASK. Yes, the story is true, but it?s about a close friend whose wife left him abruptly. He suffered many years because he was estranged from his kids.

Very sad,but incredibly beautiful poetry. It is moving and the reader feels it. I am generally not a fan of sad endings, but nor am I in this case, but your words stir the soul and maybe you should send it to her, if it's a nonfiction poem and win her back. Bravo.

This I imagine would be quite shocking to come home and encounter a situation like this. Especially if you didn't anticipate it coming. I can understand it being difficult when the person that left was your everything. I like this and the feelings and emotions that you wrote this with. Thanks for sharing this well written work. This story is true about a close friend, and indeed he was shocked to come home to find his family gone. He suffered many years because of this loss. Thank you for your sympathetic response. Rod

I truly appreciate your comments, Gail. This story is TRUE, but it is about a close friend, not me. He and his wife never worked things out and she kept his kids from him for many years. Rod

Both he and Claire should have communicated more fully, but I blame her most for stealing the kids. He hardly saw them for many years because he could not afford to travel that distance very often.
