I've heard many true stories about women in abusive relationships, and I'm always astonished by the amount of crap they are willing to put up with before they leave the jerk.

Question: Is this Wendy in any way connected with the character in Umbrella Girl?

No, just chose the same name and realized afterwards...

And that is how it usually evolves....or devolves....however one would prefer to look at it. A wonderful set of 'letters' for a wake-up call for some... :) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette
P.S. Know I'm running way behind but midterms and else have been eating up the time.... plus, the Fall 'blahs' have taken hold so, I'm trying to spend more time outside! ;) :) Take care! ;)

OMG - this was absolutely captivating, Maria! I loved how you told her story in letter form. It really kept this reader in the moments of her progression. I'm glad she left that S.O.B.! Definitely worth the extra star and don't you dare tell me otherwise, LOL. Hugs, Lou

A very well-written story about the abused who are scared to do anything to get away from the abuser until something happens to open the abused's eyes.

Well written progression of a nightmare marriage. Fortunately, she left at the end. Some battered wives don't leave and don't seek help. They must have begun to believe they are as worthless as their men say they are. If anyone notices such behavior, there is no one to call. It's not a crime unless the wife complains. Sad.

Maria, This is a very good post from start to finish. I love the picture of the little girl, which makes me think that is Ruby. You used very good descriptive words and finally the end was so deserved for him. Made me think of my ex-husband. love and blessings, Teri

Hi Maria Jose. And high time it was, as well, for Wendy to leave Sid. At least she found the courage when he beat her up. So many women don't, even when that happens. I liked this story. I hope somebody, who needs the support, will read this. Ulla xxx

This is excellent, Maria. Controlling and/or abusive partners are difficult to get away from. It takes a lot of courage. Women may not be able to defend themselves, but will defend their children. Hopefully, they find the courage to leave. Only one suggestion and that is to fix the spacing after "novels." Marilyn

Sid might have had appealing packaging but he was rotten inside. Domestic abuse come in many shapes and forms, and he seems to have practised all of them from psychological to physical in a very controlling way. Thank goodness Wendy found some escape to get through those years, and thank goodness she at last found the strength - arriving at the tipping point - to leave with Ruby. Reading this made me tense up with bad memories. I will never understand how men (and some women do it too) can profess love for someone then treat them so badly.

This journey is all so familiar as domestic abuse escalates if it is not stopped at the beginning. When I was first widowed I communicated with someone on an online dating site. After a few emails back and fourth he started bullying me! I couldn't believe it, I had never ever met him! Of course I soon stopped the communication and moved on. These early signs are often missed when someone is vulnerable and feels they have a lot to lose, I enjoyed your letters here Maria, this was a unique way to tell this story, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
