I'm pleased Helen and Charles are safe for the moment.
A very few suggestions:
Over the course of the next fifteen minutes we learnt that the airport was still closed. - comma after 'minutes'
We were told the most expedient way - there is an extra space after 'We'
"No. He was quite specific. I'm afraid the invitation was for you alone. I'm sure that Ash will be able to keep Helen amused for a quarter of an hour. - speech marks needed after 'hour'
