Thank you for taking this opportunity to share your experiences on FanStory. I enjoyed your rhymed couplets in these quatrains and agree with your observations. Oftentimes, I find the low ratings were just a slip of the finger, and usually from a new member. Smiles- Joan

Yes, I agree with you, "most" of the time it's just a mistake. However, I've experienced several over the years, as I'm sure we all have, that was just down-right mean. LOL

You know Lou, we've been around here a long time and it's just not fun for me anymore. So many things have changed, it's all the short versions now. Six word poems, 5-7-5's and so on. Do you feel the same or is it just me?

I don't mind reading the short, shorts when they're done well. You should do what I do - take a break from Fan Story. That's how I've lasted here for so long.

I go off and on with the contests and as far as posting a lot of poems every week, I have gotten to a few in a month. This poem of yours has given me a new way to look at everything, I'll just blame it all on the newbies. lol But it's my work that's lacking and no laughing matter. I like your attitude and will look up more of your work.

Yes, when you post a new poem or any type of writing the site automatically gives us 2 free reviews and they pay other writers to review our work. Although, I don't know how much they pay. Sometimes those two free reviews can jump to 5 or 10.
I'm just curious, do you ever promote your work? The more you can promote the more reviews you will get. I discovered a long time ago that if I didn't promote my work no one would ever read it. It's all about how much you can afford to promote as to how many members will read it. In other words, in my opinion, it's all about the money. But, you have to be willing to write a lot of reviews to build promotion money.
If I can be of any help in any way, just let me know.

I know what you mean, when I first joined, I did nothing but review review, so I could put a good price on my promotion. got lots of blue ribbons, as time has gone on, I have fallen by the wayside and just two and a few good friends who don't care about the 2 cents they will get, is enough for me now. thxs for the offer of help, right back at ya!!

This is a splendid poem citing many of the feelings other members share. It is clever and to the point. There's no figuring out how some readers interpret something as being negative and misunderstood that is actually very clearly spoken. Your closing couplet is right on target! Yes, that probably happens to every writer on Fanstory, especially to those who promote their work very high up the list. Even though they don't like your piece, instead of pressing "skip" they can't resist the money. So, they give you a bad review, grab your money and run.

I enjoyed your poem because it is a beauty for structure, so no worries there, and I also agree with low ratings being off-putting if they aren't accompanied by constructive comments on how to fix our work. If I get a four that suggests nothing that needs fixing, I ask for it. I'm not worried about not getting empty fives or sixes, I simply want to know those who review my work, enjoy it, or they find things that need adjusting.

Yes, I agree that Fanstory is the best writing site. Over the years I have tried many writing sites online, but none even comes close to this one.
In my opinion, I think there are a few members here that joined just to cause trouble by downgrading everyone's work on purpose. I've seen it many times over the years. Eventually, with enough complaints, they are kicked off the site, but many come back using different names.

Yes, I agree with you. I suppose every writer on Fanstory has the same problem that you have mentioned. If someone reads our work and simply don't like it they should click on "skip" and move on. However, they won't do that, especially if that piece is highly promoted. They would rather give you a low rating and take your promotion money. I don't believe that will ever change.

It's been my experience in the last eleven years here that when most writers open your work it's only to see how much promotion money you have on that piece before they review. If you are not offering enough money to make it worth their time they will move on. Also, each time that piece is opened the counter automatically adds another number to the amount on your "View" total. Therefore, it doesn't mean that they read your work while they were there.
