Your short fiction tells of a tragedy with 'hopefully' a happy ending.
I can't imagine life being so bad that someone would feel the need to end it. I hope I never get to that place.
Your story is well told in so few words.
Good luck to you with the contest.

As a past emergency dispatcher I worked thru a number of suicides that occurred on my shifts. They were all after the fact, so I never had to hear the gun go off, or try to counsel the victim, but they still had a devastating effect on me as a complete stranger. Life is hard to cope with, and hopefully, the schools are implementing more and more counseling strategies for our young people and paying more attention for those who show signs of depression. Good luck to you in the contest!

On a cell phone call from his only motherless child, he did not commit suicide from Beacon Bridge, he returned home regrettably; well said, well done.

Wow! What a great entry for your contest. You certainly have a gift for a passionate little story. Suicide is a great subject because there are far too many and it leaves families and friends filled with guilt and anger and grief.

A very well-written heartfelt eighty word flash fiction. Sometimes we are blinded by our pain and loss of a loved one that we forget about another loved one who are waiting for our return.

This is a very touching story. Very captivating start to finish. Your plot seems realistic as does your character's thoughts. I do hope the call makes him think twice. You're right more needs to be done with mental health and the stigma against mental illness needs to be lifted.
