I think I'm too late to vote in the contest, and I don't have a six-star rating left to give, but I think this story is beyond excellent. It is well-written and poignant. I agree with the mental health directive. As the culture becomes more chaotic and harder on its citizens, we have cut back services. Just like the double whammy of destroying the rain forest and producing more meat.

I am so grateful for your kind and gracious words. I also agree with on the issue of mental health, which unfortunately takes a backseat when it comes to our healthcare priorities.

This is a short flash fiction piece with a strong emotional pull. That's hard to achieve with so few words to play with. It's nicely constructed {smiles}.

Good luck with the competition {smiles}.

This one made me tear up! You have told a wonderful, moving story with your few words (as required by prompt). Sometimes a few words from the right person can prevent a tragedy.

This is a powerful piece with such a strong ending. We see the pain of the unnamed man, but also you've shown us the others who are victims of suicide in the voice of the daughter on the phone. It is to be hoped that if this scenario occurred in real life, the voice of the child would be enough, but sadly you wonder how many times it happens like this and the person contemplating ending his or her life is just too far gone to be reached. Heartbreaking. Bravo for tackling a difficult subject.

Powerful little story. I trust he went home, because it would be far too cruel for him to take away her other parent. Suicide is selfish, and I hope he realizes that. Once we have kids, the goal of our lives changes. We must iive FOR THEM. And they in turn will bring us happiness again.

Boy this really tears at the heartstring, oh, yes, suicide is a major problem and it creates a shadow that is hard to erase, this is a marvellous story, I adore my kids, and grands, they keep me grounded in many ways. Beautifully written, I loved the thought behind this. Well done, blessings, Roy

This is so sad...am I to conclude that he didn't jump? Because I love happy endings this is what I want to believe.

You are quite right, mental health is a serious issue and it should not be ignored.

Hello Tpa. That's a touching story. It is a tragedy that is headed for another sad event but the call reminds him that life is all around us. Good luck in the contest.

Hello Tpa
Your entry into the 80 Word Flash Fiction. caught my eyes and glad I did knowing your character in your up-lifting words from a daughter who was going to take her own life.
Called her dad on a cell phone.

Thank you, but it was the dad taking his life. I let the reader make the conclusion of staying alive after his daughter's call.
