Interesting look at deceit.
I'm not quite sure who "I" is. What will this narrator gain from aiding the immigrant?
The ambiguity of "mistake" in the last line is intriguing.

This is an interesting comment on a slice of life in our current times of changing borders and groupings of countries. Thank you for sharing your work, and I hope it is well-recognised in the Flash Fiction contest.

I am going to start practising my charming smile - it obviously is the best way to flout the system and con my way into something that isn't rightfully mine. Your story is a wee contemporary gem - very topical, summing up attitudes that are too prevalent: dishonesty and lack of respect for due process.

I think this is how a lot of terrorists get into America. I also believe that more attention should be paid to the women who come with the men. In almost all terror attacks a woman is present but is always released. The FBI tried to question the woman who was with the Las Vegas shooter a week after the shooting spree, but couldn't. She was already in Japan.

I like the honest tone here, the bare bones character, the out for ourselves mentality, let's beat the system because the system is crushing us. Look for those cracks and try and squeeze through them. I thought you created a nice portrait in a small space, with good economy of language. It reminded me very much of that contemporary Eastern European style of writing I first came across in Kontinent estory

I'm sure a lot of this sort of thing happens and I'm glad someone is writing about it. I used to teach ESL to adults. It was a government program so every few months they came out with a new questionnaire. Many questions were left blank and those students never returned.

This reminds me of the new Real ID that we must now get and for women the need for marriage certificates to show all of the name changes we have had. I find this discriminatory and part of Trumps paranoia--just my opinion of course. Best wishes in the contest, my friend~Debbie

I Romania you can get married if you don't have an id and on the marriage certificate, you also have a spot for your maiden name☺I had no idea that in the USA it is not mandatory. In Canada when you apply for a job and you do a reference check with the police you have a spot on the form for the maiden name. Thank you for sharing your experience on the matter

Haha, this is a very nice write my friend! Immigration laws being flouted just a wee bit, but who cares if it gets swept under the carpet waiting for a mistake to happen? You did very well with this and I think it's a strong entry for the contest. Good luck!

Yes! Too close to the truth to be funny. It amazes me how lax we've been for decades, letting in anyone who can climb the old broken fences. No one seemed to care till Trump came along and finally did something about it. I like his idea of "merit" immigration. If you can't contribute, but just suck off taxpayers, you can't come!
