Choking is a horrid thing. The fear of it all, the feeling of pending doom. It happened to me once with a hard piece of candy. The worst few minutes of my life. She was lucky you were there.

Thanks Misty. After the surreal feel wore off, I needed to write about it.

I'm glad you know the Heimlich maneuver. Next time I go out to eat, I want you at our table.
If she was truly grateful, she would pay you by talking only half as much. Is it too late to make a deal?

Thanks Phyllis. It was a surreal moment, but hard to imagine what could have gone terribly wrong. Felt I wanted to share it in some way.

This is a good entry for the Flash Fiction contest. The first paragraph made me think this was heading for a dark finish, but the culminating gentle "twist" leaves the reader with a feeling of optimism. That's neatly constructed {smiles}.
Good luck with the competition {smiles}.

Thanks Alex. I wanted to find a way to express how in a moment one decision can change a life time. Surreal moment.

I won't tell your wife. I don't know her... but this story works on all kinds of levels. It's a sly little suggestion that maybe if your character wasn't fond of his wife the silence might have been let become permanent...

One of those moments that I wanted to express somehow. Thanks!

An amusing little story told very well in very few words. But then, from what you say about your wife, you are not the one who is verbose. ; ) good luck in the contest.

Congratulations on an enduring and successful marriage. This story is a fitting account of what happens when the chips are down. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Appreciate how life can be defined in a moment more so now.

This is a nice little snapshot piece, which shows a sliver of one couple's life and emphasizes how love conquers all. As someone once told me, when I started trying to write in this technique, I'm not sure that it's true FF yet, you will see how it gets on in the contest.
