Depression is something to avoid and yet it can creep up on you without warning. I have lived a very long life and so have had a bout or two of the white elephant. The escapes are a few. Finding a deep interest in something other than yourself and trying to understand others and help with their problems.
You are wise to write about it because it is a well received subject. Your poem is very helpful in its portrayal and depiction of various scenarios. Thanks for sharing.

You've written a poem on a topic of importance in today's society. Comforting and guiding with optimistic suggestions to initiate turn around and self-help. An enjoyable read.

Many people suffer from depression and it is good that you recognize the and address it. I think your second stanza could be a bit smoother And I'm not sure about "everything around you is numb, including you." But nice attempt at acknowledging this condition.

AMEN! This is well penned and eloquently expressed. One's own attitude does so much to make life a wonder or a blunder. I thoroughly enjoyed this and think there will be lots of folks out there who will benefit from your wisdom. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

You identify the problem, and symptoms, and possible remedies, all in one short poem. Amazing! I need to do the same thing for sleeplessness. Thanks for sharing!

Your title right off the bat made me want to read the poem for I suffer from depression. The thought of embracing it seemed intriguing.

After reading I found it very inspiring. Don't let something take you down. Learn about it and speak out from it. What a wonderful message.

Hi Mia Twysted. I'm just talking my mind and not being a doctor, I recommend you seek professional help versus my poem. You're nice. Thank you. Hugs, Alicia (aka Sunniliciou)

Dear Sunni,

Your moniker says you should be optimistic. This is an interesting poem about depression. Everyone seems to get down but some seem to be more susceptible. I think it is based on genetic makeup because for a lot of people the glass is NEVER half full.

Regards,

Winlsow

I applaud you giving voice to the topic. The more depression is written about the less of a stigma it should carry. Half the problem is, as you say, since psychology isn't an exact science and any doctor or nurse practitioner can write a script for Prozac or Abilify and diagnose depression we have a sub-culture of people who (imagine this)---might just be sad for a darn good reason and would greatly benefit from your outlook... Get UP...Get Moving...

I wish there were a concrete and verifiable test for this and many "mental" illnesses. Doesn't it seem like every third kid is suddenly "On the Autistic Spectrum?" It makes me crazy! (OOPS--a bit of self diagnosis slipped out.)

There is no one solution...and I would not want someone with severe clinical depression to read this and feel like "Damn, I can't even do THIS right!"---but the important thing is you've opened the door...

Hi Karenina! You're nice. I think just watching the news on tv can cause depression. But I've heard that the high numbers in depression these days are a result of computer technologies and drugs: OTC and Rx. I don't know if that's true. You're funny. Thank you. Hearts & hugs, Alicia (aka Sunnilicious)

If my own emotions have any say at all I can affirm that an hour of CNN is enough to make me want to harm myself or others!--K

Yes, depression is an important topic to address and I admire your creating this primer on how best to deal with it. Here's to optimism and believing in oneself! Cheers- Joan
